how old?
Well, my kid and his buddy just scored tickets to the game. They are heading out in a few minutes. I'm a little worried about two kids hitting the road this late, so send out some prayers.![]()
prayers sent.
having gone back and forth between omaha and denver for years, i can tell you that night improves the scenery as you head east past northern colorado..
:rofl2:
Did they make it?
Nope. Turns out, they only had one ticket. They were going to try to buy another at that game. So, they went to the other kid's house and the plan was to sleep 'til 1:30. When the alarm went off, they were too tired and thought better of going on a whim with the "hope" of scoring another ticket. Dumbasses. I have to say, I'm glad. I think these things require just a tad more planning. But thats just me. But, hey, I would have let him do it if he wanted to. I'm not exactly Mr. Overprotective, am I?
No not at all. Your right, it's probably best the didn't go.
i am in disagreement. it is easy to get tix outside a stadium. they are not exactly going to be given away, but if it is important to ya, you can go.
the drive is nothing. with two people, they could drive shifts and make it.
if you aren't going to road trip in college, when do you propose to do it?
To go on a whim sometimes leads to a bad time. Maybe they wouldn't be able to find a hotel...ect. Which you could argue that is part of the adventure and fun, or it could potentially be a disaster.
I don't see anything wrong with taking a road trip. I just agree with the old man, a little more planning would have better suited them. To go on a whim sometimes leads to a bad time. It's college. There's someone out there who might be willing to offer a couch or better.
the hotel would be more of a serious concern 10-12 years ago. four seconds on expedia, and i have 46 hotels listed in the vicinity, starting at $58. one of those kids is bound to have an iphone, and if they don't, they know to call their friends to scope it out and canvas expedia for them.
kids are resourceful buggers.
as for planning, not much is required to hit the atm and point the vehicle on I-76. it turns right into I-80. it is impossible to miss the university of nebraska exit. from there, it is impossible to miss the stadium. the bigassed concrete highway bridge borders it on the west.
they MAY find it helpful to have a gps to get them to the hotel. my phone has gps capability if i choose to use it.
technology and instant communication has taken the need to plan out trips months in advance.
Gawd Darn It! So I'm wrong. You are absolutely right. The internet, gps, technology in general has made life too damn easy these days. Back when DBT took road trips they where actually called trail trips and they either took the stage or drove a wagon themselves, and in that case there was a lot more planning required and likelihood for something to go wrong. Its no fun to have a wagon wheel break on you in the middle of nowhere.

It's a good thing he didn't die of cholera and successfully forded the river. Too bad his oxen died though.
I just think that when they woke up to the alarm at 1:30 AM, they realized how tired they were and said, "**** this!"
