USC is hiring Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma as its new HC

He was pretty great with coaching searches at CU. No doubt about it.
How much of that was on him, though? We'll never know. It's a rhetorical question. Thing is, if you look at what he's done since he left here, it's pretty solid. Fickell and Riley? Did he just all of the sudden figure this out, or was there maybe some institutional challenges here that he didn't have to deal with elsewhere that made those CU searches such a disaster? I think it's a perfectly reasonable thing to wonder if RG could be dealing with some of those same challenges - leading to the same kind of results that we saw with Bohn.

Luginbill was right a couple of weeks ago when he reported that something was afoot in Norman, but guessed the wrong destination.

Bohn leaked everything on Butch Jones. He was the source. How is that NOT on him?

Maybe he was. Maybe he wasn't. I don't know that for sure. What's happened since then points to the ****show at CU being the outlier, not the standard.

Even if he was, it doesn't change the fact that he suddenly seems to have figured out how to be an AD. Don't you find that odd? He's been an AD at five schools. At four of them, he was considered a very solid AD. Only here was he some kind of clueless buffoon. Sounds to me like he wasn't the issue here. Might want to look at those to whom he was reporting. (hint, that guy is still there and we're still talking about how awful our AD is)

Bohn went to Cincinnati and hired Fickell, and is now at a blue blood program and stole a top 5 coach in the sport from another blue blood, soon to be SEC program.

Meanwhile, CU fan is still blaming him for the issues here

He was part of the problem at CU. Not the whole problem, but he made some HUGE mistakes that are mostly on him.

He also learned on the job at CU.

I guess I’m just over it and now feel there were much larger issues here. CU fans can be salty about his time at CU but the constant ripping of him and his competency over the last handful of years is just tired at this point. Navigating the issues USC has faced since he arrived, cleaning up Swan’s mess and now stealing Riley is as good a job as any AD in the country. Throw in his Fickell hire and it’s not hard to say he might be one of the best in the country.

Yet here we sit with HCKD. The best we could get (and over paid for Him apparently too) when HCMT simply quit for greener pastures after a year. Funny how the guy bolted so fast eh? Like there might be something wrong here.

The pattern of hiring less than ideal coaches again and again and again suggests CU is the constant in this problem.

Of course something is wrong.

But we also need ADs to stop compounding mistakes at the institutional level.

Bright move on Riley's part. The SEC was going to be a high stress challenge for OU as far as getting into the playoff goes and the recruiting was going to get even more brutal. Better to travel to Westwood, Boulder, SLC and Palo Alto than Starkville, Oxford, Tuscaloosa, etc. He can fight with Chip K and Oregon for high value recruits in the state of California and elsewhere. Turning the culture around at USC is an equally big challenge and maybe the main one.

pretty impressive get there

so who does Riley recruit via portal and turn into a heisman guy? Or does he just turn Dart or Slovis into one
