The two teams may, in fact, be trending toward a legitimate, organic frustration with each other.


But defensive tackle Clint Shepard said Monday that he sure hopes not.


"You know, Colorado — they’re not really known for being one of the top dogs in the conference, and we want a rivalry with one of those top teams," he said. "I don’t see it as a rivalry, and I don’t really see it becoming a rivalry in the future."


Lest that become one of the test tube rivalry’s first inflammatory soundbites, Shepard added: "That’s not to take away from Colorado. They’re a great team, and in the future they may do great things, but as of now, yeah, we want to set [the bar] a little bit higher than that."

And us the same. We call for usc or UCLA. No one wanted KSU as a rival when they sucked eggs for years, maybe Kansas.

I hate this forced rivalry garbage we have with both Utah and CSU. I guess some rivalry in the PAC will develop one day if we ever get good again, but just not sure who it will be.

I like it. Similar recruiting pros/cons, market size, etc. Battle of the Mormons vs the Hippies. Magic underwear vs granola culture (both fanatics outside the mainstream). Embrace the new rivalry, the resemblance is what we don't want to see.

One of the unfortunate results of conference realignment is that some good rivalries end up getting killed. Besides CU-NU some of the others that come to mind are Pitt-Penn State, Texas-Texas A&M and WV-Pitt. Utah-BYU also won't be playing the next 2 years although they will resume the series in 2016.

maybe ASU ? their fans are trash and their HC is trash... I'm not sure CU has ever beat them
 
OU-NU was pretty good back in the day. I do miss hating on the bug eaters, only thing about the conference change I'm not thrilled with.

Agreed. Sex should be about love and two souls connecting as one in a beautiful and intimate moment. For most of us, a very short moment. And usually only one soul. And that soul usually gets darker after never getting called back.

Its going to be a while before CU finds a rivalry in this conference. So much parity. Outside maybe SC, there really isn't a consistent top dog we can target for the long haul. And just being my age - I'll probably go to my grave before I see Utah as anything other than a mid major.

Our biggest enemy so far in the Pac is ourselves. **** CU!

Wait. I know back in the day we targeted NU as our rival because they were the best. But didn't they only take us seriously after we beat them a couple times and ruined their season? Will there be a day we are consistently taking out SC? we have to think realistically here. SC has enough rivals (ucla, notre dame) that we'll never even crack their top 5, no matter what.

The thing that the potential Utah rivalry has is that we both lack rivals and we've been consistently not good. SC-CU will never be a rivalry unless you guys want a case of SEVERE little-brother syndrome.
