I think someone in Cincinnati barfed, and came up with that idea.

How is the state of Colorado for recruits this year and next? With CP going into Georgia and Florida I haven't heard nearly as much about the OL men coming out this year or next. Which used to be All Buffs biggest complaint...keeping the OL in state.
2025 is bad. Desouza is the 2nd ranked recruit and we were his first P4 offer I believe.

2026 looks much better though. There are 2 top 500 recruits and we've made progress with both. Breck Kolojay is a 4 star who plays for IMG, but is from Colorado. We're in on him as well.

Bad is an understatement. Horrific is a better word. 2026 might be slightly better.

Colorado parents put their kids into soccer. Lots of 290 pound soccer players. 😆

I am entirely indifferent on if they sign any CO kids going forward. He has to be obviously special like McCaffrey was, IMO. Otherwise, go hand pick all 15-20 HS recruits they will take in a given year from FL, GA, TX, TN, MI, PA, MO, LA, etc
We are no longer at a level where "locking down" in-state talent is that important.

If a guy is good enough to be getting valid offers from top 15-25 type programs then yes I want us in on them but just taking a guy to sit on the bench because he is from Colorado doesn't help us.

Coaches can get a much better evaluation on kids from the states you listed because the level of high school football is much higher. It is much more likely that they can get film on a prospect playing against somebody else who is a D1 level athlete.

Very little value watching for example an OT prospect blocking against a 5'10" 170lb DE with average quickness. Helps to see the guy blocking a 6'3" 260lb athlete with a quick first step.

The only position where Colorado seems to consistently produce legit P4 talent is TE. If we can keep some of the better ones home, everything else can be spot recruiting.

Given how Deion recruits it makes sense to target only specific players and needs. Colorado doesn't produce high end talent often enough for it to be a focus like it was on past staffs. Locking down the outliers like a Rhett Armstrong is the only case that matters due to the position and talent.

I think Prime should announce that CU will take two players from Colorado every year, then run an Amazon show about the competition around the state to get those spots.

If we want to pretend to be the standard bearer for higher education in the State of Colorado, we should at least pay some lip service to the notion that we are serving the needs of in-state students and by extension, in-state student athletes.

CU can serve in state student athletes best by putting the best product on the football field possible. Get the few outliers every so often from Colorado and then use the wider exposure resulting from only taking high end players to build up the rest of the athletic department. Given the size and wealth of the state there is no reason that more sports shouldn't be played at CU.

This is what the preferred walk-on program is for.
It looks like the settlement is going to result in an end to anyone being a walk-on. We'll have rosters of 105 players with all of them being on scholarship.

I think there was fear of NIL abuse with this, too. What would stop Phil Knight from giving a kid $2M in NIL to join Oregon as a walk-on so he'd have to enroll and pay for school on his own out of the NIL money he got? This was going to be a back door for circumventing the 85-man scholarship roster limit.

Yep. Only sign Colorado kids if they are special like McCaffrey, dammit! 😆

Hmm. Scholarships aren’t free. The AD has to pay the university for them. At CU it is the out of state rate. I’m not sure what the numbers are these days but around $30K per year. So 20 more for football would be $600k.

And then, of course, at least I’d think, scholarship limits would also be dropped for the other sports.

So, all that said, fiscal numbers alone will limit scholarship numbers.

Especially in this era of college athletics, I am not convinced we should place any more emphasis on adding players from Colorado than the Broncos do (that is to say, none). Sign the best 20-25 kids we can every year, full stop.

I wonder if Prime, RG the new Chancellor and Saliman make some changes to that with the House Settlement and Universities bringing the pay for play in house. Charging the AD out of state tuition for all football players is a really dumb, self imposed hurdle that doesn't need to be there.

Why don’t they charge in-state for in-state kids and out of state for out of state kids?
