Way to Go Buff Fans!!

I think they blew the whistle because Geno was going ape **** on the side line and sent the team medic onto the court before an official had a chance to think.

Probably.

I was all over the refs when it happened, though. This was not a player safety issue. We had a fast break with numbers going one direction and the player was down with a leg injury behind the opposite baseline. You don't stop play in that situation.

You are correct. There was no way we had 2K empty seats. I agree it was probably not a sell out, but it was freaking full. More than 10K and more likely 10,500 or better.

There were also a lot of people standing most of the night as well in the concourse area. Defiantly over 10K. GA could have been packed a little tighter, there were gaps here and there, everywhere else looked full.

I am starting to think the school is avoiding counting certain people in an effort to save money. I'm cool with it.

Agree with ya here. Also looked great on the ESPN highlights. Showed a true bball atmosphere that was pretty crazy.

With students getting in free, does the attendance only cover those who paid?
That's what I'm thinking has been done for all 3 of the NIT games. The numbers from the 'eye-ball test' have always been higher by between one and three thousand than what ended up being the official attendance.

Seeing that there was obviously 10,000+ there last night....report 9,065 and pocket the cash for the 1,000+ other paying individuals without having to share/give to NIT

Okay, I'm a little skeptical, but let's say your response is spot on. If the gate folks "miss" scanning 1000 fans -- we'll use GA tics for this -- at $5 a head, that's a whopping savings of $5K. And yes, I realize that's 5 grand more than they had to begin with.

Point is, it seems to be a pretty small amount of cash gained to do something like this with the attendance numbers.

Fully agree, although GA tix were $11 so a littler larger piece of change....i'm going more with the theory that the students were let in for free or Boyle paid for them, and as a result their numbers were not in the final attendance

Makes much more sense than trying to scam the man :smile2:

I suppose any of the theories are plausible, and this one sounds like the AD returning the favor to the coach (thereby saving him a few $$$). Certainly reasonable.

Please back off your attitude that you are so superior because you are a Duke fan. It gets tired. I don't care how impressed or unimpressed you are with our student section. You don't go to the games. I am proud of our fans tonight. We filled the CEC for a freaking NIT game during spring break, and our fans were enthusiastic and behaved with class.

As has already been pointed out, we were booing the ridiculous stoppage of play, but what has not been pointed out is that the whole arena also clapped for the player in question when he did return to the bench.

Just for fun, enjoy this summary of Duke fans from GQ magazine's recap of the worst sports fans in America:

**** Duke. :wave2:

I try to keep my smart ass comments to a minimum, and I already have exchanged smart-ass comments with Snowbuff already in this thread. But I have to respond to this one...

You don't care what I (a Duke fan) think of YOUR fans...I really don't care what you think about what I write on these boards, but I will continue to comment on the CU fan base when I feel they act out of line. Why? Guess what, I am one of you. Why the **** would some random Duke fan post on these boards? I am one of the biggest CU bball fans you'll meet as well. I do go to games, albeit not as many as I would like. I donate to CU as well. Like it or not, a DUKE fan is also through and through one you.

As for the fan comment, I feel like I've already addressed my confusion, apologized for it, and clarified.

And for the Duke fan comment...I admit I know only a few Duke grads, but NONE of them consider themselves the classiest fanbase. They consider themselves the best and most clever...not the classiest. GQ?! You're referencing GQ for sports?! I always thought that was supposed to be a metro mag, and I've never touched it...but even if they do have a sports section...who gives a **** what GQ thinks?! Especially when it's premise is false. Hate Duke all you want - I understand. Hate the Crazies - sure. But get your hate correct. For instance, I hate ND football...because the entire independence thing...not because I think their fans are unruly.

Fair enough. I was a little fired up last night, and I took exception to your post. I was much more annoyed with your statement about not being impressed with the fans that were there than I was with your statement about the booing you heard. I think it is pretty lame to call out fans at an event that you were not at. The fact that you are an outspoken Duke fan on this board leads the reader of your post to infer that your lack of enthusiasm for what the fans did last night is rooted in a comparison to your beloved Duke fans. Fair or not, that is the impression you make when you post that next to your handle.

I agree that the GQ thing is pretty stupid. I was just trying to make the point that there are some who would list Duke fans as being among the worst. I should have left it off my post.

Bottom line is that I was proud of our fanbase last night, and I was a little miffed to to hear your tone as you discounted their efforts without having been a part of it.

are the other schools fudging numbers or just us?

the people we aren't counting are the students. Boyle is paying for those tickets. Wanna bet there were instructions to not worry about counting all the students? I went to all three games, I was scanned only for the last game, and I got there earlier than pretty much every other student for that game.

Were they issuing hard tickets to students or did you just use your Buff One Card???
