Way too early 2018 CU Draft Thread

With 4 Buffs drafted in 2017, and at least 4 others going UDFA, who are the likely candidates for the 2018 draft? Draft candidates, IMO...

RB - Lindsay
WR - Bobo, Fields, Ross, Ento and maybe Winfree if he lights it up and leaves as a Junior
OL - Irwin
LB - McCartney
DB - Laguda and Oliver (again, of Oliver decides to leave after junior yr)

None are sure fire like we had in this class, and some will really have to ball out this season, but having 8 seniors that will, at the very least, be on a mini-camp or Training Camp roster in 2018 is encouraging.

Was thinking about this yesterday. We have a great chance to 8 or more. I expect a great season from all of the guys on this list.

McCartney seems pretty set on education over football. He has size and heart to be Late Round pick potentially.

Laguda reminds me of Witherspoon in trajectory of being a liability to an asset. He was good last year and I see him getting better. Add to that size is quite impressive. I could see him be a mid to late round pick.

Lindsay has added speed and got to be one of Top 20 backs next year which usually means a call from a NFL team. If he has 1500 yards and 15-20 TDs and good numbers, he should be draftable.

Irwin has the size and stuck around to help his draft status for 2018. He could have called it a career. If he stays healthy he could go anywhere from Round 2 to late round. Just depends on his film.

Frazier is better suited for D. Not sure why he wasn't utilized there some last couple years. He could be like the opposite path of Kasa. Hi numbers on pro day will be big.

Gary Barnett has drooled about Bobo saying he was one of most all around best WRs CU has ever had. He has a pro body too and unreal body control. He should get a call.

Fields is diminutive with below average height but his speed is an asset. He will be UDFA.

Ross is a mystery. He may be perfect for NFL slot.

Winfred really needs two full seasons to improve draft no matter how good he will be.

Oliver is a phenomenal athlete. I think he would want at least one more track season but if he leaves early it means he's a Top 50 type pick imo.

CU has talent like the early 2000s potentially. It was awesome seeing 4 guys drafted and 4 others get a shot.

2017 will be a fun season. 10 Wins isn't out of the possibility again.

I think all on the list have a great shot at being drafted. Obviously I would love for Oliver and Winfree to wait for the 2019 draft but we'll see. Kough is under the radar like buffnik alluded to but the dude can play and wouldn't be surprised at all if he is a later round pick. In addition to All PAC 12 honorable mention he also graded out as the 2nd best OL on CU in 2016.
Which brings me to Irwin who I believe will be the first Buff taken next year. If he has an equal to or better year then 2016 I think 1st-2nd round for him is what we can expect.

I know people question Gerrad Kough, but we are talking about a guy who was honorable mention All Pac-12 last year. Definitely a guy who could see his name called next year.
Yeah, there's potential there and much of it rides on how successful the offense and team is in 2017. If CU keeps getting good national pub this season, there could be more than just the individuals I listed.

I think Irwin will be a 1st or 2nd rounder.

I'll bet Bobo has 10+ TD's this year and gets into the top 3 rounds.

Lindsay in the 4th round.

Oliver could break out and be a 1st rounder. He will be amazing to watch this year.

Shay as UDFA? If he progresses in his senior year, I don't see why he wouldn't be a 3rd or 4th round pick at the very least. He may not be quite as fast, but he's very similar to John Ross, without the major injury question marks.

Shay could go earlier. I should have said UDFA at worst. He's not near John Ross' speed and has yet to show the same all around game. If Shay runs a 4.22 then he is going Top 3 rounds. I don't know if he's that fast. Maybe I am wrong.

I'm not saying Shay will be a top 10 pick like Ross, but they're very similar in build and he'll be a 4.4 guy which is plenty fast enough. He's also a pretty polished route runner that is utilized in both the middle of the field and red zone similar to Ross.

I don't think Irwin goes in the first round or even the second but he is a solid 3rd-4th round guy. Not an elite athlete at the position but smart, tough, versatile, and the kind of guy you want on the field and in your locker room. First and second round teams draft guys they hope will be in the pro bowl, 3rd and 4th you draft for guys you expect to be solid multi-year starters. I think Irwin fits that description.

Shay needs a solid season but teams love that speed and he shows it on the field, not just in shorts.

CU is starting to turn into DB U again. The three guys this year following the success as a UDFA of KC last year will get teams thinking that MM and his staff know how to get DBs ready for the league.

Hate to say this because I love the guy but Lindsay will go late if he goes, he is one of those guys who gives 100% but I don't think he translates into a special back at the pro level.

Bobo needs a solid year as well. If he does somebody will fall in love with him at the combine or the pro day and draft him mid to high based on looking like a prototype NFL receiver.

Likelihood is that Bobo is our first guy taken unless Oliver comes out early (or Montez has an unbelievable year and leaves early).

Lindsay doesn't need to be a special back to be drafted. He needs to show his versatility as a runner, pass catcher, and willing blocker and he'll get an opportunity from someone in the mid rounds.

I think he can go in the Pumphrey range. Bigger, just as fast, and more versatile even if he won't match the college production.

I think PL could be a situational back in the league. Hell, it's better that then not getting a shot at all.

Would not surprise me at all if Laguda is the first Buff. Like Digger said, I see him on an Akhello-esqe rise where he can play himself into a day 2 pick.

I know it's too early to tell but this talk of Bobo and prototype WR gets me thinking about Huntley. 6'4" 220 with good speed and at the spring game he was looking very smooth in and out of his breaks. Can't wait for that guy to see more snaps. Even after the 2018 draft when Ross, Fields and Bobo get drafted CU is still loaded at WR.

I almost think Huntley, with him being 6'3" 225 already, he could make himself a lot of money and become a matchup nightmare if he gains another 15 lbs and becomes an Evan Engram type TE.

Lindsay. I am pretty sure whatever happens next year, he is the perfect special teams player and teams will pop his tape in and someone will fall in love with that. Past that, depending on the season they have, Bobo, Irwin, McCartney, and Laguda all have a great chance. I really don't want to lose Oliver, but think after 3 DB's being drafted in 2017, he has a great chance of leaving early.

Bobo seems like a long shot to me. Lindsay us too small.

If Bobo has a good year he will get a solid look, maybe not drafted high but he will get a shot.

Agree about Lindsay, he is undersized and doesn't have the kind of speed and quickness that NFL teams look for to make up for the size. He does a lot of things well at the college level but what does he do outstanding enough to get a pro team to draft him?

Seems like bobo will be on a lot of projections but then a less than stellar combine will make him a UFA.
