As I'd mentioned in the general WBB recruiting thread, the team has picked up a SIGNED commitment in JUCO 5'9" SG Madison (Maddie) Buford. Looks like she has been/ is attending Rend Lake College in Ina Illinois after spending her prep career at Lutheran North HS in St. Louis MO. Looks like she'll be a sophomore for the Buffs. (Because of Coach Payne's tweet below, assume this is official.)

Welcome and congrats to her!

A little more I can find on her-

Her JC stats - https://rlc.prestosports.com/sports/wbkb/2019-20/bios/buford_madison_r80c

Her high school (senior year) stats - https://stats.stlhighschoolsports.com/sports/basketballgirls/stats/teamstatoverall.php?t=140&s=747

Per https://www.southernillinoisnow.com/2020/03/02/lady-warriors-ride-success-into-postseason/ , her 20.6 points per game had her 11th in the country in scoring average going into her team's playoff game. It also says at that point she was committed to Mercer College.

Per https://www.lncrusaders.org/athletics/crusader-teams , she was All-State in high school.

BOULDER—Colorado women's basketball head coach JR Payne announced the addition of Madison Buford on Friday.

Buford, a 5-foot-9 guard, comes to the Buffaloes from St. Louis, Mo.

Complying with stay-at-home orders across both Colorado and Missouri, the recruitment process was conducted all virtually. Coach Payne and her staff have not been able to recruit face-to-face this spring which means, the first time Buford and the staff will get to meet in person will be when everything resumes to normal.

"Recruiting virtually has been an interesting experience," Payne explained. "Our staff really values and loves building relationships with the young ladies who join our program. It's been challenging in that regard. We have spent a lot of time on the phone, FaceTime, doing zoom meetings and doing our best to get to know student-athletes that we are recruiting.

"I think when you are genuine in what you're looking for want and value, and your prospects reciprocate those sentiments the virtual aspect of recruiting is only distance. It doesn't keep us from doing what we need to accomplish."

Buford wrapped up her high school career at Lutheran North in 2019 and then attended Rend Lake Community College this past season. She started all 33 games as a freshman for the Warriors and lead the team with 21.1 points per game. Buford was 37.8 percent (233-616) from the field and finished the season 30.0 percent (67-223) from 3-point range. Her 67 3's were 18-better than the leading Buff in 2019-20.

"We are so excited to add Maddie to our Buff Family," Payne exclaimed. "Her impact will be felt not only on the court but in our community as well. Maddie is a proven scorer who can fill it from all over the court. She is a young lady with high character, is extremely competitive and comes from a great family of athletes. We couldn't be happier to have Maddie joining us this fall."

She was First-Team All-Conference lasts season and All-Region last season, also earning Regional Newcomer of the Year. Buford's success also earned her honorable mention NJCAA All-America honors.

Buford scored more than 1,400 career points during her high school career and was First-Team All-Conference her sophomore to senior seasons at Lutheran North. She averaged 16.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists on her way to Conference Player of the Year honors as a senior. Burford, a McDonald All-American nominee, was a three-time First-Team All-District selection and a two-time First-Team All-State honoree.

She played with the Missouri Phenom Nike EYBL for four years, advancing to the AAU Nationals once.

Buford comes from an athletic background. Her father, Tony, played linebacker at the University of Tulsa and went on to play with the St. Louis Cardinals (since relocated to Arizona) in the National Football League. She has two older brothers, Micheal Hubbard and Jack Buford. Micheal was in the military and Jack is an offensive lineman at the University of Missouri.
