News to me that she was leaving. Pretty good 3pt shooter and pretty good rebounder from the wing. Production isn't hard to replace, but she was kind of in the Haley Smith spot so now it's replacing their combined production. Haley was 11.2p/ 6.4r/ 1.2a. Ellis was 6.4p/ 4.2r/ 0.7a. So that's 17.6p/ 10.6r/ 1.9a in production that the Buffs need to find just to match last season (and they were 39.2% and 37.1%, respectively, from 3pt range). It's a pretty big hole.Averaged 24 minutes per game.... Is this a big loss and was it known she was leaving?
Feeling a bit sad reading about Makenzie's departure. She looked to be on the rise the last part of the season playing with more confidence on the offensive end and hitting some critical shots. Given the roster, it looked like she would have been a good bet to start again next season. Also, she was a teammate of Kennedy's in club ball. I figured she's be an important contributor next season.
In terms of numbers at the position/role she played, there are a lot of players available. In order of experience:
• Monica Burich jr
• Eleanor Jones so
• Annika Jank fr
• Mya Hollingshed fr
Ouch!! With the team already very thin in the front court, losing Mackenzie will definitely hurt. I doubt it was known because she just played as part of a CU WBB 3-on-3 team at the Olympic Training Center this past weekend.
I really hope that the posts from CUOldTimer about the coaches bringing in JUCO players is true. The roster really needs a boost. Hope to hear they also bring in grad transfers or regular transfers. There are many players this season who were considered top talents coming out of high school looking for a new place to play.

She's a 4 so not in the Haley position moving forward. I would imagine Knight will play that position for a lot of minutes next year with Caylao-Do & Freeman getting some minutes there too.

1-2 JUCO's at the post positions (4/5). Could also get a grad transfer or a normal transfer.
.
With the issues we saw on rebounding and interior defense, I was expecting her to play the 3.
JUCOs better happen. In my mind, I have no idea of the ability of Eleanor Jones. Didn't see enough of her to know her talents.
She tried to this year. Just not athletic or quick enough for this system. How many times did we see her foul on the perimeter trying to draw charges? They want to press, press, press. That's why late in the season, they went so small with her at the 4.
Maybe that explains why she is transferring.
My thought exactly after reading these latest posts. Playing the 4 at Kenzie's size (both height and her comparatively slight build) in the PAC-12 could be somewhat brutal. If she wants to play on the wing, which seems to suit her given her 3 point ability, she's probably not a good fit as the new system shapes up.Maybe that explains why she is transferring.
What I don't like is the AAU coach or whoever is looking for a transfer school before CU has even made an announcement.
No doubt that the coaching staff wants athletic players who can press, trap and run the court. Ellis does seem to have perimeter skills, but I am not sure about her athletic ability at the 3. Still, I will miss her. She seemed to be passionate and was definitely improving.
It will be interesting to see what happens this spring with recruiting. The late signing period begins tomorrow, if I remember correctly. Unlikely there will be any jucos signing as they most likely haven't taken official visits.
Just in case you think that this transfer thing is sort of shocking.......well, it's really par for the course right now.
