WBB - Makenzie Ellis is transferring from the University of Colorado

When I first saw the tweet for the transfer, I couldn't help but think of this. Makes me wonder just how this could happen.

Right. Can't help but wonder when she decided to transfer and when she informed the coaches.

It shows the coaches had no idea this was about to happen. All I'll say is the reasoning has nothing to do with the coaches or her role on the team. Most likely where she ends up will show the reasoning behind her transfer.

Yes, the women's team had Makenzie Ellis and Eleanor Jones decide to transfer out. It hurts them a bit with some depth. Losing Ellis hurts more because she was a full-time starter who, I think, got a lot better in the second half of this past season. She was emerging as a scorer and rebounder. Jones never really played and spent much of the season injured. Sounds like she might go the D-II route. Reinforcements are coming in, though. Four players are already signed and I expect them to add another couple soon.

From Howell's chat today. I didn't ever see where Jones could play at the DI level. All the best to her.

Jenny Baranczyk, right? How has she done there?

Team has gotten better every year. Won the Missouri Valley championship and automatic bid to NCAA. Championship game went to OT and they beat UNI, who had gotten the automatic bid the last two seasons. Big rivalry between those two teams.

I wish Monica all the best.

So Ellis wants to play with sister and play the 3. I heard the sister stuff but not the position part. As I said earlier, she's not Haley's replacement at the 3. Just not quick enough.

Burich wants to play the 3.

Jones just can't play at the PAC 12 level.

This is just common stuff for transitions.

We will face growing pains next year but all of this is better for the long run.

Well, the big weakness this past season was the frontcourt and losing 3 frontcourt players obviously doesn't help shore that weakness up. I really was hoping to see year by year improvement for the team so I hope the coaches can find some hidden talent out there.

I like the way the roster is starting to come together with Curtis and Diop along with Knight, Jank and Hollingshed coming in as freshmen. Sounds like we're adding a couple more, too. (If my math's right, we're at 11 and probably want to be at 13 with one held for 2019 so we can sign 3 next year and balance the classes.)

We are losing one more.

Not bringing back the same players that couldn't do the job in the front court was going to solve the problems? They see themselves as perimeter players so they weren't going to help down low. We added a 6-6/6-7 girl for the post and that will help a lot. We probably need one more FR or Juco or graduate transfer for the 4 spot though. We might take a step back next year or we might not. A lot will depend on the new players and if Robinson can contribute. Regardless, I think we are in good hands long term and could really improve in the 2018-19 season.

Haley is the only major hole to fill with productivity and I think that's been more than covered by Knight and Diop. Swan, but she was only 6'2" in the post and Curtis should be more than an adequate replacement. I'd like to see a vet for the 4 in case Jank isn't ready to give starter minutes. Get that, and I believe that we've upgraded. Especially in consideration of the fact that our guards are a year older and got some reinforcement.

Swan?

I don't know if knight and diop can replace smith or not. I hope they can but neither has played close to PAC 12 competition. Those are big shoes to fill for a FR and a JUCO.

Curtis and Correal will be an upgrade over Watts and Correal at Center.

Kennedy should get even better at point.

Will Robinson be better coming off a ACL? It's possible. Cayla-Do should be better.

Power Forward will be a big question mark if we are done for new players. I think Jank starts. Hollingshed or another new player will back her up or Diop will be forced to play there some. Last year it was mostly Ellis and Beard-Fails with some Burich I guess.

The season will depend on if Robinson makes it back at 90% or better and if Jank and Knight are ready to start in the PAC 12 as true freshmen. JMO
