Congrats to Coach Lappe and each and every member of the team. You each had a part in this--even those who couldn't play due to injury or illness.

Chucky Jeffery had 22 points and seven rebounds, and Arielle Roberson added 13 points as unranked Colorado stunned No. 8 Louisville 70-66 Friday night.

It's such a pleasure to watch a basketball team that dives for every loose ball, takes charges and crashes the glass. These girls are tough. If they keep playing like this, it's going to take a very talented team that can match the fight in order to beat them.

It was no fluke. CU won by out gritting a defensive minded Louisville. CU was down early, but by the half they had a six point lead and they wouldn't relinquish it. I don't know where to start in terms of heroes. The first that comes to mind in junior guard Brittany Wilson who slapped some serious D on to Shoni Schimmel, Louisville's preseason all-conference guard. Shimmel didn't score until the final minutes of the game. Chucky Jeffery had an outstanding game on both ends. Louisville had no way of controlling her. Rachel Hargis did a tremendous job by rejecting numerous shots ( 7 total!) and scoring opportunistic baskets. Arielle Roberson scored in double digits. And then there was Jen Reese. The sophomore forward grabbed a missed B-Wil free throw with about 11 seconds left and scored with a put-back to seal the win. She scored in double figures as well.
Both teams were working hard on defense and both played physically. But the Buffs were the team that was able to get the edge by rebounding better and as well as hitting a higher % of their shots.
The second half began with a drought that had the potential to break the Buffs, but they kept playing defense and rebounding which kept Louisville at bay. As the game was winding down CU was suddenly able to go on a run that got them at 13 point lead with around two minutes to go. It seemed that it was game over. Oh no, Louisville slapped on a press that confounded the Buffs to the point that the Cardinals were able to go on a 10-0 run. The Buffs just couldn't get the ball down the court. But just when it seemed the Buffs were going to gift one, Jen Reese came to the rescue with her follow.
Tonight CU played with intensity every minute. They looked very much an NCAA tourney team as well.
