We should have kept Embree

Now before you neg rep, hear me out. I fully admit Embree was a god awful coach and he did not deserve another year. We would have been terrible in 2013. We would lose out on probably 10k season ticket holders and many more than would renounce their CU fanship forever. But, we would weather the storm.

The CU admin could show their commitment by announcing facilities (or even break ground) to keep the fans with something to look forward to. We would have nice shiny uniforms for message board fodder. Mike Bohn would finally be fired and the new AD would lead the HC search after the 2013 season. And we would likely even show some progress on the field. Keeping Embree shouldn't have been about 2013, but 2014,2015,2016 and beyond. 2013 would have tangible signs of hope for the future. We wouldn't have to sell a promise to the next coach, and coaches wouldn't turn us down because of our facilities (Bellotti, Andersen). 2013 would suck, but the years after that would be so much better. This years coaching pool has been below average, but we could have sold so much more in 2013. Tangible evidence of facilities, that may actually be done earlier than 3 years into tenure. We could have attracted much better candidates. And all those fans that renounced their fanship and gave up season tickets would be back, like they always are. Now with all this said.... No thanks. Colorado had achieved no hope status. Facilities are on the way already, so why wait. As we all know, EVERY candidate EVERY year is a crapshoot. Lets get in our best guy and move forward.
 
Sigh....let me get this straight. Bohn should have decided to keep Embree, so Bohn could get fired. Yep. Another great plan. The board is full of them this morning.

No Benson should have stepped in and fired Bohn so we could actually have an AD with a spine. That also requires Benson to have one as well

But we would have looked cool in new uniforms as we continued to get smoked on national tv.
 
Probably not, to everything. New Unis, no - JE only wanted old school. New facilities, probably not - Bohn most likely had a strategic plan to tie facilities into a big time coaching hire after using JE as a placeholder hc until Pac-12 money started kicking in. Improvement on the filed - hell no, all the teams in the PAC-12 are just as young as we are and improving. It would have gotten uglier!

One huge flaw in your logic...

The donors would not have stepped up with the financial backing of the facilities with Embree around in 2013. Between that and the loss of season ticket holders, the AD department would go deeper in the hole and actually make this job even less appealing.
 
Meh. Bellotti and Andersen were at the top of most posters' wishlist. Both eliminated us fairly early because of our facilities. That is the type of candidate we could have attracted in 2013, or even better. My point is, sucking in 2013 would well, suck... But sucking in 2014,2015,2016 would be even worse. This is all because I'm not that happy with any candidate remaining on the board
 
We already lost 2.5 million in ticket sales this year, I don't think we can afford to lose another 3 million on top of that for the ****** performance and nothing to lookforward to next season if Embree's still around. Glad they dropped Embree
 
if emgree would have been around my 8 season tickets and $2400 donation would have gone to non-renewal status after 12 years
 
Losing ticket money hurts, but spending millions on a coach and coaching staff that isn't right hurts even more. Plus because we fired Embree after 2, we're basically forced to keep the next coach for 4. Are you guys really that confident someone like DeRuyter/MacIntyre is the guy to lead us to the promise land?

This. but 2x worse. There was more carnage at the top than a bunch of Allbuffers threatening to pull their puny donations. Money talks, Embree walks.
 
There would have been no good in commiting another year to the embarrassment of Jom Embree as head coach. He was abysmal.

Get MacIntyre in here.

From what I've seen posted a lot of money is being withheld by keeping Bohn too. Have you not seen the carnage he has caused with this coaching search? Now we're stuck with him at least 2-3 more years

I'm a hell of a lot more confident in them than in Embree. Plus we are then looking at two more horrible recruiting classes by keeping Embree in 2013 which digs the hole even deeper on the field let alone the financial crater that would have taken place. There is not one remotely good reason to have kept him a 3rd year.

Withheld by who? Buffs4Life? They can keep their two dimes and a nickel if they want.
 
No neg rep but no. The administration finally makes a stand up move, let it stand and deal with other issues as needed. Bohn does have capacity to make a good hire.

But you don't get it...we would have our pick of the litter for 2014! Coaches would be lining up (behind food carts, of course!) just to have the chance to be part of our forward thinking program. You aren't seeing the big picture here.

I guess getting stuck with coaching leftovers for 4 years doesn't count? MacIntyre/DeRuyter were practically in Cal's backyard and they passed, along with all other programs. I'm not saying they can't or won't succeed, but I think we improve our chances of finding the right guy long term by waiting

We would have needed the Argus security staff to keep the candidates out!
