Weekend of Oct 1-3 Other Games

TCU is boatracing Texas early. Two TDs and a safety.
The gameday people asked Gary Patterson before the game if his team was going to miss 6 guys off the defense that are suspended or something. His response surprised me - he told the players (and TV guys) "we've beaten better with less". Wow.

Yeah, this isn't going to go over well. Not all his fault, Texas is just screwed up overall right now, from the top down.

I think he needs to shoulder a lot of blame for really bad STs though. Terrible.

The Iowa-Wiscy game is pretty good. 3-0 Badgers with both teams missing a FG and Iowa failing on a 4th down attempt inside the 5.

To put in perspective the level of respect TCU showed Texas this week leading up to the game:

Would you like to see what below average special teams can do to a team with the talent to be on the verge of contending again? Texas could be 3-1 and playing #4 TCU close today but instead they're 1-3 and in line for a third consecutive loss. Today's embarrassment was bolstered by an oversnapped punt that resulted in a safety, a shanked punt, and now a missed field goal. When the offense is stalling with three and outs and the kicking units are killing you, even a Kirby Smart defense would be ready to transfer.

The Coloradan this month has a good article on 1990 Buff national championship squad, and all the quirky things that led to the Orange Bowl and the win over ND. One thing mentioned was that McCartney put his best players on STs, and that those teams accounted for a lot of points scored for CU and points denied to the opposition. I know Frank Beamer used to (maybe still does, Hokie?) do the same thing when he was building his program, and VT's STs were widely regarded as the best in CFB.

Is there some reason Mac 2.0 isn't doing the same? Or do we just not have enough good players to spend on STs?

Good thing we're paying a guy 200 grand plus to make sure our special teams are ship shape.

Headed to the Navy/zoomie game in a few. Lacks the tradition of the game against army, but is a much better rivalry, IMO.

OU v. WVU is a pretty decent matchup to get in the early window.
Loving the OU uniforms. Why hasn't OU's "white" color in their uniforms ALWAYS been Cream. Afterall the school colors ARE Crimson and Cream.

Rooting for a shoutout here. And for TCU to hang 80 on the most financially endowed college football program in the universe.

It's about to get ugly in Blacksburg if the Hokies drop this. Big segment of that fan base originated in 1999 and thinks they're entitled to 10 wins each season.
