what effect did the hawkins disaster have on CU fans?

on the one hand, we've got some posters suggesting that, because hawkins was so horrible, we are now too trigger-happy with embree.

on the other hand, we've got some posters suggesting that, because hawkins was so horrible, we cannot wait too long before making a change if embree doesn't start winning right away.

i think we are all scarred for life by hawkins. when fairbanks took us into oblivion, it wasn't for as long and we had not achieved the pinnacle of success like we did with Mac. i think hawkins has caused us serious emotional and psychological trauma.
 
We are predisposed to sniff out crap coaching and won't buy anyone's bs anymore. We want to be shown improvement, not be told that improvement is being made.
 
Absent of the ****ty play calling, I would say that fans are way too quick on the trigger. Some of the terrible decisions made by the coaching staff, and they're poor adjustment to CSU certainly allows the questions to be asked.

And it's frustrating as hell the lack of news you get out of of fall camp, can't go to scrimmage or practice, and are told how rosey players are looking, yet to come out with a lackluster effort against the in-state rivals and have them out coach and out physical you.

Embree was right on one thing, he promised we would be wearing black and gold.

I think the Hawkins influence is a lark.

The impatience is a factor of getting lapped by the B12 in the facilities wars and watching Baylor, OSU and Tech become contenders.
UT and OU remained giants. KSU's return of Darth Snyder showed that coaching matters.

With the conference change, we saw an opportunity for a do over, hopefully to compete against peer institutions in terms of attendance and facilities and big time coaches.

CU is slow out of blocks in the Pac12. Damnit. Our window of relevance is closing again.

This isn't a hawk thing. Its a DiStephano/Benson thing.

Fairbanks was 30+ years ago and while I realize we have some long term fans on here, I doubt the Fairbanks debacle is on the mind of many people, quite simply because they either weren´t even born yet or didn´t have the mental capacity to understand what truly happened (because they were too young).

I think the Kansas debacle would make a pretty good closing argument. The trick is to try and find a way for the venue to be somewhere in Texas, where they understand how important football is.

I heard one CU fan after the game Saturday state, "Maybe we should have hired the Promise Keepers guy. What's his name?"

Sadly, he actually said that.

Someone is on the right track with my venue suggestion since in Colorado it's just a 12(b)(5). /lawnerd. :lol:

Knowing Liver is a California attorney (psuedo attorney at that), I went with the federal citation for clarity. Plus, Hawkins is now an Idaho resident and we'd be suing for faaaaaar north of 75K.

how do we get tyler texas as jurisdiction and venue? do we have a federal cause of action and a connection to that district?

we need a long-suffering Buff fan who is also a resident of that district to serve as our named lead plaintiff.

**** no are we allowing this to be heard in Boise. I think we have an argument for using any venue where he coached a game.

"Your Honor, over 100,000 people were first person witnesses to Coach HaLk squandering a 14 point lead against texas... at least 3000 of them were buff fans, and one of our lead plaintiffs lived in Austin and still suffers constant emotional distress to this day"

+1. All we heard coming out of camp was about improved team speed, coaching staff that learned from last year, better S&C coach=stronger guys, blah, blah, blah. On Saturday we learned all of that was BS.
 
The team has lost so much, played so poorly and been a disappointment for so long I have no tolerance for it anymore. Can't say I'm emotionally scarred but I sure am sick and tired of mediocrity. It might be different if the Buffs had always been an "also ran" like CSU but the team and fans have tasted greatness and where we are at now is pretty darn bitter.

Even respectability looks great from where we are standing right now. There is no question the Hawkins era contributed to the short fuse many have for Embree and his staff and it's hard to blame them for feeling that way.

I petition to join this suit as a plantif and I motion that this trial includes the mental hardships and emotional scarring caused by the 2003 loss at Baylor as well. We might have to expand the list of plaintiffs.

Ummm, HaLk was here a long time, but not THAT long :lol:
 
As fans, it's a difficult dilemma, because rebuilding a program that has fallen apart takes time, now matter how you slice it. The last recruiting class was a nice step in the right direction, but this isn't basketball where true freshmen can come in and have a huge impact right away, and it only takes 3 or 4 really good players to have a good team. Quick turnarounds are pretty rare in football and people don't always see the fruits of your labor for the first several years.

As a program we are in a sizable hole, and as fans it is natural for most people to want to get out of that hole as quickly as possible, but given the size of the hole we are in it is going to take time no matter who the coach is, I think.

Therein lies the dilemma.......it takes a minimum of 4-5 years to fairly evaluate a coach, imo. The problem then, becomes that if you hire someone who turns out to be in over his head then you've already lost another 4-5 years by the time you can reach that conclusion. That's really the biggest problem with hiring someone like Embree, who's resume was really pretty limited. Head coach at a BCS conference school is a difficult job that, frankly, most people on earth could never do successfully and even for the small few that can, it takes years to learn. For that reason Embree wasn't my first choice, but now that he's here, I think firing him after two seasons would be poor form.

In addition, calling for Embree to fired anytime in the near future is mostly pointless because

A. the chances of it actually happening are small
B. our program is eroded to the point where our problems go far beyond the head coach

Until there is a change in attitude and a serious commitment to winning by the administration (either by turnover or by the current leaders changing their attitudes) we will continue to be mediocre. And I'm not just talking about throwing a few million at a new head coach, I'm talking about $200 million for facilities upgrades.

You realize Chuck Fairbanks has a Chevy dealership in Texas. You could buy a D1 baseball team with all those silverados, camaros and volts he has in inventory.

I have uncontrollable upsetness whenever I see a juicebox. Like, full-on Hulk upsetness. This has become a major problem at grocery stores and at my son's preschool.
