What happened to Sefo?

It didn't help thay we made mistakes and got goofy on the play calling down in the red zone. He had a bad day and we won. On to the next one.

Warrior Sefo would never mention it much less use it as an excuse but I wonder if he is still feeling the ankle.

He ran effectively today so it is obvious that he is healed up enough to play but I wonder if soreness or stiffness in the ankle is impacting his throwing motion. He didn't look like he was entirely comfortable on some throws and he had a lot of passes that weren't on the mark like we have come to expect this year.

High ankle sprains are notoriously slow to heal and painful to play on.

I think there is something to this. The balls in the dirt may be result of lacking the usual strength in his base and struggling to adapt to that. Still played a very mentally tough game. Bye week is at a good time.

It looked like Sefo was really favoring his knee after one play, then ended up scrambling for like an 8 yard gain on the next play, and I didn't really see him favoring it again after that. Guy's pretty amazing.
Agree on the amazing part. We may be talking about different things but I saw him favoring one pretty heavily then watched him adjust his knee brace. Looked like the brace just got knocked screwy so he had to get it back in position and he was good. More of a wardrobe malfunction than a physical problem

That could be it, it was right after he got hit rolling out to the right, but could have been an adjustment I guess.

Think it was a little of both. After he moved the pad his leg still looked like it was locked up a bit. Obviously nothing bad enough to keep him off the field (what is really?) But I am sure he was feeling those hits he was taking.

You guys realize Stanford has a very good defense... right?
Unfortunately, on TV you rarely see the pass coverage. I suspect we just were not getting open and Sefo was being really cautious to not force throws which could get intercepted. There were a few throws, however, that just weren't good throws. Like the one to the sideline where the receiver had room but the pass was at his ankles and he had to go to the ground to catch. I think that's the one after which Mac got in Sefo's grill.

Great adjustments by the offensive coaching staff to neutralize Soloman Thomas after some early pressure. In the past, a guy like that would have blown up our gameplan for four quarters.

I think they rattled him with the early pressure. I like that he played within himself and did not really force anything. The Sefo of years past would have turned the ball over.
You're right about the turnovers, but the one hoppers on easy throws to the flat and the balls that our receivers had to go to the ground to catch, not allowing them any extra YAC, were really bad and happened quite a bit.

The early hits may have tweaked his ankle too. With Sefo is hard to tell when he is hurt, unless it's really really bad.

I trust in the next 11 days they will get it fixed and Sefo will get to actually rest his ankle for a bit.

I don't want to keep dragging the argument out but I just don't buy the ankle tweak. Dude was running very well all day. Best part of his game was his buying time, improvising and designed QB runs.

I'll just say, he was shaky yesterday, for whatever reason, but I expect him to come back strong against UCLA.

It could've been just as simple as him getting rattled and his footwork was jacked up. Therefore, he didn't get much on his throws.

Those Stanford DBs are no Chido, Spoon, Oliver, or Tedric, but they don't suck.
Looked again at the game vid, it was Furd's LBs that caused havoc to the passing game. They often came through untouched on blitzes and as big dudes (all about 6'2" and 240) administered some punishment on their sacks.

Ever since Janet Jackson's, is that all you look for, wardrobe malfunctions???

Here's what I know: If Sefo and the Stanford QB(s) switched teams yesterday, we lose that game by at least 10.
CU = 2 QBs. (One middling 3* and one 2*)
Stanford = None! (Despite the fact both their QBs were highly rated 4*s!)
Had to love it when the Trees alternated QBs on every play there in the 3rd Qtr. You could almost see Tupou lick his chops when they brought in Chryst: It was obvious he was gonna run the ball up the middle.
Thought Shaw was reputed to be some genius coach or somethin' ???

He didn't play well, but then again, I expected a defensive struggle, so I guess I cannot be too critical.

We could all agree he had a bit of a rough game passing. He made plays with his legs and led the squad. Other words, he did his job. He did enough to put the team in position to win, I can't ask for more than that with a tough performance. Give credit where it's due as well, Stanford's D, especially the front 7, are very good.
