Some good ideas in here. I like the tailgating improvements and Hispanic outreach. Assistant coach salary pool is another necessary building block
From my perspective, CU needs to get more serious about Marketing and Communications. I think we are taking some steps in this direction with emphasis on social media and the positive approach of Coach Tucker, but there is a ton of room for improvement.
Build a stronger brand that attracts more fans and recruits. The recruiting bump helps on the field success.
1) CU has had a historically bad relationship with the media. Think: recruiting "scandal", recent NYtimes stuff with regents, lack of coverage, etc. A focal point of this brand strategy will need to be attracting top talent to our SID/PR team. We could use leadership that embraces the current media landscape. CU needs to be getting more media placement, developing the stories of its players and coaches. I think about Les Miles here. Glad we went with HCMT, but Les will be getting 20x more coverage, even if just stories about what type of grass he chews at KU. Think about all of the amazing aspects of our program, tradition, and location- they are underutilized.
2) #1 is made a lot easier by winning, as we all know.
3) #1 is also made a lot easier with a legitimate conference TV network and distribution
Bottom line is, I want to see CU stories all over College Gameday, in the national media, in the local media. I want to see CU gear more commonplace around the country. More than I want to see it, the recruits want to see it. A crafty PR team could go a long way. To me, it's not just about raising the prestige of the program but also about raising general awareness and excitement. Recruiting success, ticket sales, partnerships, AD revenue, salary pools, and on the field success all flow from here.
