When you lose guys good enough to play, but not good enough to win -- Is this good or bad attrition?

Not anymore. The four game redshirting rule changed this.
Jones is bad attrition? Callier?

Attrition is attrition.
This isn't the NFL, you can't go out and sign a free agent to come in and immediately replace guys. Attrition during the season is bad because of the unknown of what will happen during the remaining games. Injuries and legal issues could happen and if you already have guys that quit or you ran off that were otherwise healthy and meeting the academic standards, then you have an artificial depth problem. But I guess it is up to the coaches if they want to make it through the rest of the season using walk-ons and former QB's to fill the 2 deep at certain positions.

I see, but can’t support, this position.

The fear of the impact of attrition outweighs what you are trying to do to shift the culture. If Mel had relented and given RS, what signal would that send to the current team. Then those bad apples who forced a decision for personal gain are back next year. What will the team think next year? You ditched us last year to satisfy a personal wish.

You can’t let the inmates run the institution.

My point wasn’t that in-season attrition is good. It was that the 4 game redshirt rule provides an incentive for players to transfer rather than use a year of eligibility when they think they aren’t playing enough.
