I almost didnt make it to CU thanks to the Newsweek article "Where the Hip meet to Trip" came out just before I was ready to head to CU for my first semester. Mom was already concerned with my recreational activities. I had played football in HS in So Cal for Jim Bratten who used to tell us endlessly about CU. Tried out as a walk on for Chuckie, who hated walk-ons. I'm still sore from that fine experience. Had a friend from my HS football team who went to Drake, that was my clue to never brag about CU football loudly for the next 5 years. Went to all the games, well I was sure I was at the games for the first quarter, but don't remember much of ever leaving a game. Mom was right after all, and 3.2 was still legal.
Had classes with the Cone Heads, Marty was a pretty funny guy, was very sad when his brother Ray died a few years ago. Met my first wife there, my kids wanted nothing to do with the place their parents went to though.
