Wilner: DTV deal likely before football season barring last minute snags

San Diego, 8th largest city in the country and home to tons of CU alumni, will be shut out this weekend.

Hi San Diego Buffs:

This is just an update that you have likely seen on Facebook. We regrettably will have to cancel the watch party for this weekend against Sacramento State due to the unavailability of television coverage here in San Diego. Unfortunately the Pac 12 Networks and DirecTV have not been able to come to an agreement and despite our best efforts to find a way to stream the game online, we were unable to do so. The game will be replayed at 3am PT on the Pac 12 National network if you have access to that channel.

We will be back with you next Saturday Sept. 15th against Fresno State at 5pm.

We hope to CU next Saturday! Go Buffs!

Chippy, you should send this to the Alumni Association mothership and cc: the **** out of the administration (Bohn, DiJackass, Bendover) to show what is happening to alumni in the largest out-of-state alumni concentration. Maybe them hollering at Larry would help.

And send it to Larry while you're at it too. Now to find that email address....

So the good news is that I get to stream the game tomorrow... my mother has Comcast, therefore I have access to on-line. :woot:

The other thing we discovered is that with Hawt's IPAD, she can change my mother's TV channels from here. Bwaaaahahaha

I sent an email to Bohn.

Just called dish again. They said they are expecting the P12 deal to go through "any day now". When I told them that that was the same thing they told me a week and a half ago she said, I know I see it in your file notes, but it's still the best info we have right now. Keep checking the mydish web site and they will announce when it goes through." I told them it better be before next week or I was leaving dish.

Dear Mr. Liver,

Thanks for writing. I understand you are upset because you are not able to watch the University of Colorado football game because we have not reached an agreement with PAC 12 network. I can see that this is important to you and I do apologize for the inconvenience this situation has caused you. It will be my pleasure in responding to you today.

Your concern has been escalated to me for resolution and I did try contacting you today at 3:15 p.m. PT at the phone number ____________ but was not able to reach you.

Mr. Liver, DIRECTV is always looking for ways on how to improve their service programming and equipment. We’ve been in discussions with the PAC-12 Network and continue to work toward an agreement to add the service. The vast majority of games featuring the most popular teams and with national (football) title implications will remain available to all DIRECTV customers through the ESPN family of networks and ABC Sports, FOX Sports and FSN, FX, CBS Sports Network and NBC Sports Network and several other regional services.

We don’t have any information available as to the status of the negotiations with the PAC-12 Network but I can inform you that negotiations are still in process and a decision has not yet been reached. We hope to have an update in September. For the latest information on channel additions, please visit our website at directv.com/pr.

If you are interested in permanently cancelling your account, you would need to call us at 800-824-9081 between 8:00 AM and 1:00 AM ET daily. When the system asks for a Personal ID Number (PIN), enter ____ (this PIN is good for five days). We have a team of highly specialized agents waiting to take your call and they can assist you with cancelling your account as this can’t be processed via email.

I wish to remind you that we are ranked number one in customer satisfaction among paid TV providers and you will not receive such great service or programming with any other provider.

I want to thank you again for writing and hope this information is useful.

Sincerely,

I love the "our service is the greatest!" paragraph directly after they gave you instructions on how to cancel.

Sounds like Larry Scott's "genius" status is taking a serious hit.

Scott is getting paid to get the best possible deal for the conference. It´s unfortunate if that means no satellite deal for the first 2 weeks of the season, but should he take pennies on the dollar for a 5+ year deal because of 2 weeks?

The Pac-12 network is new, so they're the ones that need to prove their worth. But you can't prove your worth if not very many people can watch your network.

Yeah. I agree with you Jens. This is a negotiation.

+1. It's silly to freak out over, so far, 1 CU game against a FCS school. It sucks,b ut think long term. This is how we get our 10 million per year.

Something is really wrong here... I can sit here in Virginia and watch my high school play on national TV, but CU? Not so much.

No, No, Jens, you have it all wrong! Scott is a used car salesman who sold us a bill of goods and can't execute. That $20+M/year deal in the bank with rights held back for the Pac12 network sucks. Fire him now! I want someone in there who will give away the remaining product so I can watch me some Buffs, now!
(end of sample bitch - and no, I don't agree with it)

DTV can hold out much longer than the Pac-12 Network can afford to. There's only 35 games that are exclusively on the P12 Network, which is a relatively small amount given how many games there are over the entire season. And most of those 35 are non-conference games against small-time opponents. And if the P12N thinks that the USC-Cal game is their ace in the hole, well, DTV happens to have this package known as Sunday Ticket. Good luck with that one.

Admit it everyone, your boy wonder Larry Scott has ****ed this one up.

How many years did it take for the B10 Network to get on the air in most areas of the country? A long time. I remember when it first went live you couldn't get it in most of the B10 footprint. P12 is playing for the long term here.

The Big 10 network was on DTV in its first year, 2007. Some of the cable companies did take a year to get the network, but the world of media has changed quite a bit in 5 years.

This whole "showing games with national implications" suggests to me that this clown isn't a football fan, and possibly doesn't understand his own business.

We could ALWAYS see games with national championship implications". The whole point of this exercise is so that fans who root for teams that aren't in the national conversation can follow their teams. To suggest its irrelevant to pursue those teams--as the formula letter does--undermines the whole niche role that cable is supposed to fill. They're missing their own market they worked so hard to create. I can't stand that letter!

I love how all you ****ers with Comcast and the cable networks are all like, "Oh this is just negotiation, it how it goes, I love to suck Larry's ****."

I don't give a **** right now DTV are the damn Democrats and the Pac-12 and Larry are the ****ing Republicans and nothing's getting done. It's fooking boooools h i t!"

The reason the BTN was on DTV right away was because at the time DTV was owned by Fox...who the Big 10 gave a 49% ownership stake to when they started the network. So yeah, that probably made the carriage negotiations a little easier.

So Pissed. Just fired off another note to DTV quoting the following:

"DIRECTV is the undisputed leader in sports. No matter what teams you follow, no matter where you live, no one has you covered like DIRECTV."

:bs:

Clearly DTV = Fail
