WOW: RIP Rashaan Salaam (funeral service on Fri 12-9)

at the beginning of that game, Westbrook is quoted saying, "this may be the last time we all have to be happy together". value those moments.
Can't imagine any CU team had more nfl players: Salaam, Stewart, Westbrook, Ted Johnson, Clavelle, C Brown, carruth, ...

What a special player. Sounds like, from those that knew him, an even better man. We'll miss you, Rashaan. Thanks for all the joy you brought to our hearts.

I watched that kid tote it so many times and to end like this.
I remember being at Folsom when he ripped off a long one against osu..I had to look at my program

My earliest Buff memory is when he broke the 2000 yard mark. I was only 8, but I'll never forget him streaking down the sideline on that bright green astroturf as the crowd exploded. I think he only needed around 3 yards to get the record, and then he goes and scores a long TD. Folsom went nuts.

Really sad.

Like I've posted before, I knew Rashaan (Roo-dawg, as some of his people called him back then) in college but hand't talked to him since '95. Talked to 2 friends today that have kept in contact with him, although not much in the last 2-3 years. Rashaan really struggled to find his place in life after football, and dealing with injuries meant painkillers. Don't know if he was addicted to them, but his issues with weed were well documented. He did a great job later letting kids know that it made him lazy, and ultimately hurt his athletic career, and if they wanted to be successful as athletes, not to fall into that trap.

I say all this because sometimes we see these big-time athletes and think that life is just rosy for them, even after they hang it up, and someone is always there to keep the fame and fortune going for them. That's often not the case, and it wasn't for Rashaan. Fame is fleeting. It is hard for many athletes, and I know it was hard for him. Just a sad situation all around. I'm focusing on the good times, watching him streak down the sideline vs ISU and the couple fist bumps I got at post-game parties. He was a good dude.

I know we all appreciate the insight, Seattle. Don't think we'll really ever know all the factors that contributed to his decision. Rightly so, as his personal struggles were his own business - not ours. Just wish he would've reached out. Help would've been there for him.

In addition to watching him bust huge plays from the student section, I'll remember his gregarious nature and infectious smile. I'd see him on campus, always traveling with a boisterous gaggle of friends and teammates. Always smiling... Infectious type smile - you know what I mean. Very friendly and clearly enjoyed our appreciation for being such a badass mother****er.

Hung out with Rashaan back in the day. I brokered a deal between him and Peyton Manning for autographed hats. Each wanted one from other to start a Heisman hat collection. We were all so young. RIP in peace, man. I always remember your smile.
Peyton never won a Heisman.

Sorry, I had to point that out.

Very sad day. Heard it from a few people but didn't get to read anything on it yet. My autographed picture just moved from the top of the bookshelf to the wall.

I carried the colors on the field for the National Anthem for that Iowa State game and also had the pleasure of being in DKR the day Rashaan went for 345 against Texas. What great memories. Never a better tailback in CU history. A legend was lost today. RIP Rashaan.

What a tragedy. Thoughts and prayers for all the loved ones left behind.

Had the pleasure to be in the student section for that run against ISU. Wish we could have watched him play longer in the league. Got a picture with him at the football preview lunch in Denver a few years ago. I had him write a personal message on a football for my son. Just took a picture of his Heisman yesterday as we toured the facility. Just in shock, numb. We lost a quality human being and a great Buff today ........

This tears my heart. So sad, so tragic, so soon. At a loss for words. I was on the sideline, providing security (part time job while student) when Rashaan ran past me on his way to 2000 during that ISU game. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Sad day for us today..... GO BUFFS and RIP Rashaan.:(

What a ****ing idiot piece of himan excrement.

I rarely say things like this in seriousness, but if Mark Kiszla walked in front of bus tomorrow, the world would be a better place. **** him.

RIP Rashaan. One of my happiest memories was going to the '94 ISU game with my dad and watching you break the 2,000 yard mark on that epic touchdown run along with so many other great memories of you. Shoulder to Shoulder.

I was at that game. Sideline press. They let all us photographers into the bench area to capture Rashaan celebrating with his teammates. It was a beautiful sunny and crisp fall day. Perfect weather. Everyone smiling. May you live on in that moment Rashaan. I pray that you find peace.
