Wyoming Game Week Thread - Saturday at some ungodly time

Prime was shocked at the performance last week because they had a great week of practice.

Let's hope that it's all coming together and it just hasn't translated to game day yet. If so, we could still have a successful season.

Promo image suggests that this game is Salter's.

It should be. As I said in one of the other threads, I think Prime needs to have a come to Jesus meeting with Kaidon. He needs to swallow some pride and tell Kaidon that he messed up, following his gut and trying to ride the hot hand of Staub after the Delaware game. He should tell Shurmur to work with Kaidon to create a game plan and plays that play to his strengths and he should tell him that the full game is his. No short leash. So play fast and free. Let’s go!

This team needs a 41-14 kind of blowout win in the worst way. Salter with 225+ and 3TDs passing with 50+ rushing and 1 TD.

Have to gain some serious confidence going into the next 4 games of BYU, TCU, Iowa State and Utah.

I don’t disagree, but why can Shurmer and KS do this in three days of practice when they couldn’t come up with a productive scheme focusing on exactly that since March?

Anybody seen Wyoming play? I have not so anything to be worried about?
Zero to worry about. Sleep easy. They have one of the worst offenses in the nation. CU could rotate QBs every snap and it would be an easy win. The final score of the Utah game was not even remotely close to being a good indicator of how badly the Pokes got dominated. Utah stepped on their own dicks the entire game. Wyoming sucks. They had 108 yards and 0 points going into the 4th. Utah missed 3 FGs, had first downs in the RZ wiped out because of a penalties, fumbled in the RZ, etc. it was just everything going wrong at the wrong time for the Utes and it was still total domination.

Unless your run D sucks, then yeah, I'd be terrified.

If we see a significant difference in pace, rhythm or playcalling then I would expect that Prime has elevated someone's influence and it's not Shurmur driving any more. We saw this 2 years ago weeks before there was an official change.
I watched some of the game against Akron. Neither team could score or move the ball.

So, a 20-16 final then.

The reason I asked that about Wyoming was a game against them from the past and I haven't seen them play this year. I forget what year it was but CU hosted Wyoming that year as well and was supposed to roll. Well, they didn't. If I recall, Ben Kelly had to return a fvcking kickoff to win a close one. Ever since I've followed CU they seem to pull that shvt, jerking around with a team that should have no shot against them. That's always got on my nerves.

So in other words it's a toss up.

My main memory of Wyoming football is the game against them during the Hawkins era where we wore gold and silver throwback jerseys that were kind of hideous. It was an incredibly boring game and about as unconvincing as a 24-0 win can possibly be. I feel like we stopped them on fourth down in the red zone a bunch of different times.

I have a feeling that the contemporary era of college football has really left that program on the outside looking in. Even CSU is in a much better position than them. I expect a pretty easy win, even if our performance is mediocre overall. To be honest, something like a 28-17 win, featuring a coherently run offense, would be preferable to a blowout where it looks like we are doing nothing but relying on athleticism across a series of random plays (e.g., the Delaware game).

A loss would be devastating to a season that already feels imperiled, and would probably shift me into caring more about professional sports for the remainder of the fall (which I really don't want).

If we lose this game we will finish 1-11 or 2-10

100%. HCP got cute looking for a feel-good media story instead of simply being a coach.
I like staub-- I was and will continue to root for him. I also want to win a **** ton more football games this season (we need a minimum of 8 total wins, not that I have a number in mind or anything lol) and whomever is the best qb to deliver that is who they need to start. and it would be nice if the play calling and schemes were to reflect whatever the named starter does really well.

Wyoming has a history of outperforming their talent against power conference teams over the years. They have lost more often than not but games have been closer than expected.

They have a lot of players who resent being passed over by bigger programs and have been able to use that as a motivator along with those bigger name programs overlooking them.

Don't think this will be as big a factor this week though because the Cowboys played Utah last week in Laramie and dating back to their old WAC days the Wyoming fans have a burning hatred for the Utes, not as bad as they have for BYU but it is intense. They see CSU as their "rival" but have less hatred/respect for the Sheep than they do the Utah schools. They may have spent most of their emotional energy against the Utes. Utah blew them out in the second half but it was 3-0 at halftime.

We are not losing this game.
I don't see us losing it, concerned that we end up with an ugly win because we keep it closer than it should be due to our own lack of a coherent offensive game plan and inability to adjust to certain things on defense (QB runs, intermediate zone passing like middle screens, drags, etc.)

This should be a game that the starters are wearing baseball caps coming out of halftime but worry that we don't take care of business.

We also thought Houston’s offense was terrible. And it probably still is. Just not against us.
