I think you should bank your positive mojo for the next coaching staff. The marriage could net the next CU natty.

i'm going with rye manhattans tonight. that way, if things start to go really badly, i'll just switch to doubles and soon it will all be over.
We literally have the same plan on opposite coasts - it better work.

I've switched to my fall/winter manhattan mix: sub allspice dram for the vermouth. Only problem Side benefit is that allspice dram has a higher alcohol content.

very nice! i'm going to start semi-traditionally with rittenhouse rye and i really like maurin vermouth. for the bitters, i'm going with peychoud's. and no matter how you make it, you have to use nothing but luxardo cherries. any other cherry is simply not as good.

a buddy of mine substitutes tawny port for the vermouth. i have to admit it is pretty good. i will try the allspice dram--- interesting.

if we have to move into doubles, our Buffs are in trouble.

The Buffs have been in trouble since they touched down in LA.

I would have never thought of mixing with port - that's a damn good idea, especially the tawny.

I like peychouds, but mainly in a sauzerac - I'm not a huge fan in a manhattan, but sometimes I'll do it to change things up (or when I've run out of angostura).

If you give allspice dram a try be aware that it's (usually) not as sweet as vermouth, plus it brings some additional bitter flavors to the party, so sometimes a splash of simple syrup is appropriate.

Side bar: I knew a bartender who once got dinged on his exam for some master bartender certification or some such thing because he failed to ask if someone wanted their manhattan with bourbon or rye - he just made it with rye.

When they told him that cost him a point (and his otherwise perfect score), he simply told them he assumed the customer would want a good manhattan.

I think he was right...

Did he go out and buy moustache wax to match his ironic black rimmed glasses and Arcade Fire t-shirt?

Just asking.
