Possible Replacements for Embree

I was fully behind Embree until last week when he got outcoached. Now I am fully in the anti-Embree camp.

I know there is a thread on his resignation which is not a bad idea but not likely to happen. Also many express concerns that our administration won't pay for a real coach. What if we started a discussion of candidates we'd like to go after that we think would consider us.

I'd like to nominate Petrino. I know he had an affair with a staffer but he has paid the price for that and seems legitimately remorseful. Someone like him, who did wonders for Arkansas (and judging by their shocking loss yesterday, must have been important to their win totals the past few years).

Given his exodus he must be looking for an opportunity at a BCS program and would take less than he would normally have taken.

I am even now wondering if it isn't a bad idea to consider Coach Mac. He would come cheap I suspect and would do it. Alternatively, if CU can't get rid of Embree and EB Coach Mac could be hired as some sort of official advisor co-head coach with Embree?

All I can say for now is that I am disgusted by the product Embree is putting on the field. I feel that our talent level has improved due to their recruiting and even though we are young, there is no excuse for this misery.

I am going to try to take a week or 2 off of following the team because it is honestly too depressing and affects my quality of life.
 
+1 on Petrino - guy gets results. I like results. I want results.

I am sick and embarrassed of being a laughing stock.
 
Can we stop with the nostalgic candidates? Only include qualified candidates that might realistically be considered at other BCS programs. No Mac, no Logan, absolutely no special consideration or thought given to those that have CU ties. It's a BS qualification.
 
I wouldnt mind Petrino. A legit BCS coach with a big of a marred reputation. He would consider CU i think.

CU needs a coach with PROVEN COLLEGE COACHING EXPERIENCE.

I don't care if it is someone who has never even played or coached in the state of Colorado. CU needs a proven winner.

Go find the coordinator with the best resume, offer him $1.7 million, and let him go with it.
 
Petrino would love to come to a place like CU to rehab his image before getting us on probation and going back to the SEC.
 
KIRBY SMART is the top choice. Someone is going to hire at the end of this season, it might as well be us.

Solich would be decent. I would bring is Mac as a new AD; Bohnhead has got to go.

I´d rather watch a good team on probation than this crap. If you don´t cheat you ain´t trying, my friend. :)

I like the Kirby Smart idea as well. Problem is he is going to be pretty highly recruited at the end of the season and I'm not sure CU will be his top choice. In order to get him I think the money would have to be higher than the other vying for his services.

We need true outsiders at all levels to actually shake things up and move us forward. Until we are actually prepared to throw out up to $2 million for a proven coordinator (or higher for the right guy), we are going nowhere. I think Kirby Smart is a non-starter.

That will never happen. Did you go to CU? He was widely disliked for his on campus religious antics (I graduated the year he retired). They would never tolerate, for lack of a better word, his presence again in any official capacity.
 
I think Embree is a problem, hes a good man from everything ive heard, still think it comes from up top. Duff makes a good point as well. For a school that walks on egg shells and scared of what the public thinks, expose that ****. Promise you, youll have their attention then. Damn idiots dont get that going the extra mile in football will pay off in every area of the university. Have some balls, thats why I started watching this school, fear didnt apply. Idk what else to say really.
 
If Embree is out at season end, Kirby Smart seems like a longshot. He'll be waiting for an opening at an SEC school. Tennessee, Arkansas, and South Carolina might all be looking soon (Spurrier aint gettin younger). Hell, I'm not sure Muschamp and Chizik are totally safe in two more years unless they turn it around.

Pac 12 coordinators make the most sense, but I'm not all that excited by any of them off the top of my head.
 
Depending on how their season goes, May want to look at Mark Stoops from FSU as well. Their defense has developed quite an identity. They are scary good right now.
 
kirby smart is going to get an sec hc job. he's not coming here. ever.
 
I think we have to be realistic on who we could attract right now. On one hand we only have one direction to go so if you are decent you will improve, but we all know the challenges of succeeding at CU.

I stick to Petrino, don't think Smart is in play with his likely opportunities in the SEC, etc. We need someone who deserves a break but has proven himself, like Petrino, or someone who has proven himself at FCS or maybe an OC/DC who is not on the radar of big time programs yet.

Not sure if someone like Patterson from TCU would consider us. Lots of ABe'rs didn't like Sumlin but he has started off well for A&M. Someone like that-who is ready for his shot at BCS HC after turning around lesser programs
 
Gary Patterson is not an option, just like any other current head coach at BCS conference schools.

Patterson..no chance. TCU pays him very well, in a BCS conference, and in Texas recruiting ground.

Sumlin...see above.

This fan base needs to be realistic now. CU can nab a BCS coordinator with west or mid-west ties or a small school head coach looking to move up. Petrino may be in play, but only because he is totally radioactive. CU isn't the school that would take a chance on a radioactive coach.

this is the cold hard truth. the ONLY way that we might have a slim chance of pulling anyone proven at this point would be to throw absolutely huge dollars at a guy. something in the order of 5mm per for 5 years, guaranteed. can you imagine the outcry? can you imagine the resistance to that? and imagine if said savior coach started at 1-11 with 25mm guaranteed money coming. buffopocalypse!

i think we're ****ed. the only option, again, is to find a coordinator from a major program and hope he can get us going. rehab jobs won't work in boulder-- too much baggage = no support. hot names won't work-- why come here when you go somewhere that actually has the foundation in place?

There are plenty of coordinators out there that can do the job. No matter who is hired, we need experienced coordinators from BCS schools backing them up. This will require throwing out some major coin. When you consider the last three offensive coordinators have learned on the job, it is not hard to figure out why we have been so bad on offense.
 
There's nothing wrong with aiming high. Make a list. Put the #1 guy at the top of the list. Start making phone calls. Work your way down the list.

I don't think CU can land a big time BCS coach (ala Les Miles). Briles and Patterson would be long shots IMO. Frankly, CU (today) isn't nearly as good of a job as where they are currently coaching. I would suspect CU could land the coaches from the service academies (Air Force / Navy).

CU could certainly go after someone with a checkered past. Petrino would be available for a reasonable cost in $$$, but would come with a lot of baggage. Mike Price has been at UTEP for a long time after his indiscretions - and he was pretty quick to own up to them.

To me, the coordinators are the only way to go.
 
What about Mark Helfrich? I know he is slightly tainted by the whole Boise thing, but cannot argue with the offensive results he has gotten up in Oregon the past 3 years
