The Much Too Early for a Carousel Update:

Well, off we go dwyermj kicks off the spin of the carousel by spotting the first corpse banging against the hull of Rutgers, the first carousel casualty, Chris Ash.

Open Jobs:

Rutgers- Chris Ash is out (h/t dwyermj), Nunzio Campanile is interim. No firm news on the new Capo dei capi, or whether Campianile will be consigliere, but rumors abound Greg Schiano left the Pats last March to muscle his way back to New Brunswick (or is it Camden?), honestly, who cares where it is, it is still NJ. Chris Ash reportedly still alive and well. Joe Moorhead, Miss. St. HC getting some mention.

Possibles:

Harbaugh- UM is a mess. After tOSU dismantles them, it will likely be curtains for Jimbo.

Charlie Strong- Severe downward trajectory. Off to a bad start for an embattled HC.

Derek Mason- below .400 at Vandy in year six.

Clay Helton- Sitting at about .640, not a good look for the plastic SoCal fan.

Matt Luke- Ole Miss always presumes their team should be more than it is, but even by reasonable standards, Luke is underachieving.

Mike Bobo- CSU may not be able to afford to let him go yet. When you look at his overall record, it isn't that bad by CSU standards. But the losses to the flagship, AFA, Boise and Wyoming weigh heavily. Plus, stumbling out to a 1-4 start makes it likely Bobo is a goner.

I am sure there are others. Who knows what amusement the carousel will bring us this year.

Other News:

Show me the Money- Cali leads the way to player pay, starting 2023. Hapless NCAA and Conferences clutch pearls.

I'm curious to see what happens at UCLA. UCLA is now all time bad and Chip Kelly just seems over it. Recruiting is not going well. They're looking down the barrel of a 1 win season. I think his buyout is massive so I doubt UCLA fires him, but maybe Kelly wants to leave too? They figure out some kind of buyout and he walks away to do whatever a college coach that doesn't like to recruit does.

I think USC and Washington State will have new head coaches next season.
The Pirate sets sail? I kind of doubt that one. You may be right, but he has been as successful of a coach as they have had up there. I suppose he could weigh anchor of his own accord, but given the way their season is going thus far, I doubt he wil be high on anybody's list.

It would definitely be him leaving because Wazzu will not fire him (nor should they). He has looked around the last couple years, could definitely see him thinking the time is right.

I'm with Lefty-I don't see this, and I don't see Leach enjoying coaching at a place like Tennessee or something like that. He goes out and gets a good DC and he's probably fine.

Chip's buyout is $9m.

his inability to recruit a QB who can start and play well outside of grad transfers means he's always one missed year from a disaster. Add in the fact that the air raid is now taking over everywhere and he could be picked up by a bigger fish. Pairing him with a good DC has already worked well once. Maybe some AD will get crazy.

If you are Illinois or Indiana and have the money to throw at him, why not? Or if you are Va Tech and you are sick of Fuente?

What AD wouldn't want him talking about the mascots in their conference?
You'd learn about the history of Hoosiers, whether a boilermaker could crush a buckeye with his bare hands, the strength of a terrapin shell.
Maybe what it's like to get tar on your heel, why the color of a devil shouldn't matter, or a pitch to protect yellow jackets.
Enlightening your fan base.

The Pirate in the $ec?

Can you see Billy Bob and Bubba listening to him talk, scratching their noggins, and trying to figure out what the hell he just said?

I wonder if Chris Peterson looks around this year. I know he signed an extension and I’m not sure what his buyout is if he leaves but he seems to be losing his grip a little bit, especially offensively,

The Pirate is attached to just about every opening the last 2-3 years. He obviously wants out, which is weird as he probably has more leeway than John Elway. Dude can do whatever he wants at WSU.

Interesting, but doesn't one of his kids have a rare disease that a hospital in Seattle specializes in? He mentioned that as being a big reason he went there. I think he has bigger aspirations than the next big thing, it seems.

Kinda like the Mighty Mullet in stoolwater. He's been mentioned in conjuction with multiple openings the past few years, and has used the flirtations to increase his salary.

That's actually not that bad, but idk if UCLA would want to pay that already. I still think they could reach a deal, he could wander off and go do something else.. the Redskins need a HC for example, that seems like a good match
