Saying WSU raises the Pac 12 prestige is like saying Kentucky raises the SEC's prestige because they averaged ~8 wins/year the last 4 years.
Yes, when Kentucky wins 9 and 7 regular season games in the last two years and wins bowl games it shows how strong the conference was. The only thing that is different with WSU is they did well while the conference was down. But he point remains, anytime you have lower tier programs with good coaches exceeding expectation it is good for the conference as a whole.
Nobody cares about Kentucky winning 10 games or thought any differently of the SEC when they did, just as nobody thought differently of the Pac 12 when WSU won 11 games last year

WSU was getting a ton of love last year before the Washington game, what are you even talking about? Good bottom tier teams help the conference, that isn't even debatable.

I'm talking about raising the prestige of the entire conference, not what amounted to a one season feel good story for an 11 win WSU program (or a 10 win CU program in 2016) that ultimately didn't even play in the conference championship game. Averaging 8 wins/year is great and makes for a stronger debate about which conferences are better top to bottom, but overall conference prestige mostly comes from what your top 3-4 programs are consistently doing and WSU isn't in that conversation nationally (or even regionally).
Conference prestige comes from both your top tier and your depth. It is exactly why the ACC gets blasted because they suck outside of Clemson. When you bottom tier teams aren't complete garbage that is a good thing.
I don't disagree, but the only people truly blasting the ACC are Pac 12 fans when having this argument.
So you really think that Vanderbilt's 3-9 record really matters either way to the perception of the SEC conference? Or that if MSU or Mizzou were not essentially .500 teams this year, but rather were like Vanderbilt's record, that would have further trashed the perception?
I don't think anyone really believes that. At the end of the day, the top 3 or so define the conference. If the conference is reasonably competitive nationally. If WSU goes back to a 4 win team, that will mean another win for about 4-6 more PAC12 teams, and will have almost no further effect on the PAC12.

Agree with Duff, I don't like Leach, but Wazzu definitely helped the Pac (even though they were very talented at losing to FCS teams) – how is this even an argument? They cracked the top 10 once or twice if I recall.
That being said, this definitely helps make our path to a bowl easier – it's important to have some true bottom feeders in football, like KU in the Big 12.

That isn't true at all, everyone across the country in the media blasted the ACC this year for how bad they were.

Wazzu did have some solid teams before the Leach era. They could still be a decent program depending on the new hire.
