Who should be our next head coach?

Cody's issues were never with the mental side of the game. He just physically didn't have the tools to be a successful P5 QB. I think he will probably end up doing very well as a coach in his career.
Hopefully if he has a son he won't follow his pops way of thinking.

Sorry I’m late looking in here. Who is Johnny Depth? I have him on ignore so it’s been changed recently? I’m feeling it might have been a forced handle change?

Since someone mentioned Joe Brady in another thread, I could get behind that.

Isn't happening. Brady didn't like recruiting while he was at LSU, and was pretty candid with the media about it. Makes more sense as a potential Bronco HC candidate assuming Fangio gets axed.

So this is neither here nor there, but I wonder why Jay Gruden never coached in college. Everything about him screams college coach to me. He's charismatic, connects with players...

He was a middling head coach in DC, but who could possibly succeed under Dan Snyder? I could see college being in his wheelhouse.

Probably just offer him the job - never been a head coach and I never really hear his name in the coaching carousel. Don’t know what he’s making at Baylor but have to imagine he’d jump at a HC job.
That's my thought. I'm assuming he wouldn't have left BYU if he wasn't chasing a bigger career goal.

Plus he has CU ties, which I think is critical.
I agree, I’m just pointing out why a lateral move from BYU to Baylor might have made sense for him.

I’m now rooting for Urban Meyer to go down in flames so badly that even USC thinks twice and he has to take a job someplace like CU for a couple years. We’ll make it really easy for him to leave (contractually), so that has to have some appeal!!

The frustrating part about the buyouts is that any big program that wants to poach someone from CU isn’t going to be deterred by a $5-$7m buyout. Michigan State isn’t even an elite program and they would have paid whatever it took to get Tucker. Matt Campbell and the ISU AD made sure ISU was protected with his buyout number because he knows the programs/NFL franchises coming after him will write whatever check is needed.

Yeah frustrating. I wonder if someone like Tucker as a big name SEC coordinator has more leverage in those negotiations than the coach from Toledo? It’s got to be a bit awkward negotiating the buyout - a coach negotiating hard for a lower buyout is basically telegraphing that he wants it to be easy to leave sooner. I guess it’s really the agent doing all that.

But Campbell’s buyout I’m referring to came with the 5-6 year extension he recently received, so it wasn’t like he had the leverage of a coach from Toledo. He knows he can probably pick his job right now and he and the AD still negotiated a big buyout because why not?? RG just sucks

Getting back to Texas was the overriding factor in that move.

That’s a nice position to be in. But I think I read that his buyout in 2017 (so after year 2 of his initial contract) was over $9M.
