Official Michigan State/Mel Tucker Hate Thread

Mel Tucker was unproven when he was hired by Michigan State. When Spartan fans asked how good he was, I simply said CU fans don’t have any idea. Year one means nothing, you start to know by year two, and really know by year three. CU never got a chance because he was here for one season. His recruiting looked good, his game day coaching was uneven. Tucker was far from a proven coach, but man did he parlay one five win season into a huge pay day.
And a 10 win season at MSU

I liked his energy and fire that he brought.

It's looking more and more like the midnight hiring of Mel was a disaster for both programs. Mel of course did very well
Looks like Michigan State ended up making two less than good coaches ridiculously wealthy. Mel got the guarantees that normally an elite coach would get, in total Michigan State will end up paying him close to $100 million between his two contracts.

Then CU panicked and gave Karl Dorrell much more than he ever would have gotten any other time. His $18 million is only a fraction of what Mel will end up with but still a ridiculous amount for a guy who was stuck on the wheel as an NFL position coach.

At this point, I don’t know. It’s clear he can recruit, but it’s also clear he’s just not that great of a coach. I would obviously still take him over what we had the last 2.5 years, but now that the search is back on, he’d be pretty far down the list
His results on the field haven't matched his recruit ratings. Some very good players but also a lot of guys who either didn't factor or just left.
