In light of today's moves, getting two TEs in this class is essential. Maybe a JUCO too?

Yes. There is a TE in Oregon's base offense. To give you an idea of how little they use the position, in 13 games last season with all those offensive plays they ran... their tight end had all of 24 catches. Deehan had 24 in 12 games last season (Riar Geer had 36 in 12 the season before). And that's an offense that is changing to feature the tight end.
Whatever, though. Either he comes around or he doesn't. We have other targets on the board who are just as good or better.

If so, I thought he'd jump at Michigan or one of his other offers that actually offer good academics and an offense that uses the tight end position more.
This one is weird to me. Lots of time until signing day, though.
Word is he committed as soon as they made the offer.
I can see why. Emotions probably got the best of him, hopefully he comes around and joins the black and gold.
This is correct. Embree and Co are going to have to work extra to overcome the damage done over the past few years. HS kids don't know about what happened in the 1990's to them CU is a team that lost 2/3 of their games and didn't go bowling. Oregon is the school that won the PAC and played on TV for the title.
It would make a huge difference for this program if the Buffs can win 7 and get a bowl, doesn't even matter which one. That would look to the kids like the program is on the way up and they will have a shot at winning.
Until then going out of state is going to have a natural appeal even if the kid is going someplace that isn't actually a good fit.
Our recruiting momentum is non-existent right now. No excuses to not reel in a good class this year with an unusually strong in-state class.
EDIT: We better get several prospects to jump aboard before the season too. If we are banking on a big season to reel in recruits, it is not going to end all that well for us.

I saw Bayliss play twice last season, and I'm missing what the recruiting services are seeing..
The first time was against Mullen, so maybe their defense is part of the explanation.

Well, I sure don't expect a big season, but I do think we need to show vast improvement and some attitude to help land a decent class.

Baylis has the size, a true NFL style TE prospect, he is going to shoot himself in the foot if he joins Oregon.

I just have a feeling but I don't think he's interested in being a blocker. His HS offense just lets him run seems and go out and catch passes. That's probably what he'll do at Oregon. CU's offense is going to require guys that are willing to block their ass off 1st, WCO/rollout/seam route after that. In our offense, TE's will be productive but it will require a complete players effort at the position. I don't know if Baylis is interested in that.
TE is a blocker at Oregon. Rarely gets thrown to.
Most likely Oregon showed him a bunch of wins over the past few years, the facilities that Phil Knights money has built, and made him a bunch of promises about "We just need a TE like you to start throwing the ball to the TE 70 times a season"
If the kid thinks that Oregon is where he should go then I will respect that decision. HS kids aren't know for being the best decision makers but they have to start sometime. Would have liked to see him go to CU and that still might happen but it's his decision to make and for better or worse he gets to make it.
I think he would have had a much better experience at CU but quality kids make a good experience out of wherever they go. Now if CU loses out on a bunch of other Colorado kids then I will get pissed.
