'18 CO QB Blake Stenstrom (SIGNED to COLORADO)

I just remember (as do most I'm sure) how inaccurate/sporadic of a passer Sefo was and how up and down Montez was last year, particularly with his deep ball and his touch, and would like to see fewer high school highlights of a wide open 50 yard TD, along with fewer "off schedule" plays that resulted in a receiver adjusting and the QB finding him wide open. Those skill sets are nice to have for the <10 times a game when the opportunities present themselves, but I'd rather see uber accuracy on the routine routes and timing throws that is 80% of CU's passing offense.

Stenstrom is at a higher level at the same point in HS then either of them.

I didn't say he wasn't, and I feel like people are missing my point. I'm not saying I don't like what I see from Stenstrom, nor am I comparing his skill set to Sefo/Montez. I'm saying I'd like to see more meaningful clips of our 2018 QB recruit, who some are very excited about.

Sure, they're highlight reels. Which is why I am looking at footwork in both protected pocket situations as well as sliding away from pressure, etc. That all-star game shows several really good instances of that, which are advanced QB techniques. His footwork is excellent and he's in position to throw accurately. I think he comes in as a guy more ready to play D1 QB than any QB in a long time.
With that said, he walks into a QB depth chart more stocked than any QB has walked into in a long time.

If you go back and look at the early out of state games and the plays he is making now... You would be very excited. He is only going to play better. I hope the ceiling for him is far away (I think it is) from where he is now.

I agree with what you are seeing in his abilities and techniques, however I disagree with the bolded.
IMO, Lytle was more ready. But of course that's just my opinion.
I am just happy to see a QB room with this much talent.
Now we need one of these kids to catch lighting in a bottle and put us over the top!

What I know is we have, with Evans in the mix, a really good chance of being real strong at quarterback if the coaching staff puts the best guy in there. If they get caught up in “playing favorites” we may not be so lucky. We need fair competition. I’m glad Roper will be a fresh set of eyes without, hopefully, any bias.

I was surprised by the highlights as well.

Showed a better arm than I expected and some of the throws were on the move when he wasn't set.

He has a big advantage in having his dad who can help him with the fine points of the game.

A bigger advantage he will have is that with Montez, Noyer, Lytle, he will have time to develop without being thrown in before he is ready.

I wonder how different his recruiting would have gone if he had a different last name at a public school.

Or he'll just win the damn job. Mature enough to handle it well if he has to wait, but I don't believe in guys waiting their turn. Best player plays. Hope he comes in ready to compete and win Pac-12 football games.

I'd love it if he did.

Agree that the best player should play and if we have a QB good enough to step in and start early in his career so much the better.

Also a positive though that we finally look to be in a situation where the starting QB can be the guy who is best and we have the luxury of not forcing somebody in before they are ready.

One complaint I have about HCMM though is that he hasn't used the opportunities he has had to get his back up QBs playing time.

Agree on the complaint. And I think it has been an issue for more than just the QB position. Other positions are a lot easier to work into meaningful game action, though.

Stenstrom doesn't hype himself so fans tend not to hype him enough. It's like people don't remember he was an Elite 11 finalist last year. Didn't make the Top 12 for the AA game invite, but he was one of the Top 24 QBs in the nation last cycle. Couple that with him being such a high character guy and rest assured that CU got a major recruit here that will work his tail off and be the type of guy coaches and teammates will trust. I'm very excited about his future.

So with the QB recruiting really improving...what’s changed? What are we doing differently to convince these studs to come here?

What’s so great about CU...meaning...we haven’t had a QB drafted since I think Detmer and outside of 2016 have been completely irrelevant as a program since these kids were in diapers.

Mods: feel free to move post if this isn’t the right place. Thx.

We started showing QB recruits the Flatirons.

Pac-12 is a QB conference, so that's given a boost. The offense is QB friendly, so I think that's the big thing. Especially with Chev's vision for it and then being able to add a guy like Roper as QB coach.

We had some dominoes fall in our favor with some of this, too. Momentum has built with QB recruiting the past 3 years due to some good fortune, too.

I have to believe that new facilities help recruiting at every position too, except DL because those guys apparently hate nice facilities.

They can’t see the flatirons if they’re inside.

If Chieverini cannot keep the slimmest QB room in the Pac-12 happy for a week, how is he going to be the guy to lead the program?
WTF is this all about? I thought he had a good chance to start....is all the focus on the Freshman?

Maybe he's just exploring his options, which I imagine would be pretty limited outside the FCS level.
