'18 TX WR Jarek Broussard (SIGNED to COLORADO)

Mainly because it is.
Rice freshman stats in 6 games..6 catches..120 yards..1 td..had 21 catches this year.

Penry freshman stats..in 5 games..8 catches..82 yards..1 td..penry will have more than 21 catches next year...

Penry will not be as flashy...but much more reliable imho..

We shall see..

Mainly because it is.
Gonzo had 42 tackles and 5 PBs..in 2021..in 12 games..zero picks in 2 years

Reed in part time role in 5 games had 9 tackkes..1 PB... and a pick

Reed also had a 100 yd kickoff return..

Gonzo was talented...but it never translated into big plays...imho. Reed showed some big play ability in a limited role..

That's not what I was suggesting. The dude went up, got the ball, and made plays. He wasn't targeted often.

Penry was a pleasant surprise last year. I'm glad he's on team.

AND, I think that Rice is a huge loss to our offense.
I do agree...with a competent qb..and offense..he is NFL caliber...I still think the loss of JB hits the deepest..

And yes... would love to have Rice back...but given our current offensive woes...his loss is not felt as horribly..

I’ve never heard anyone suggest that it’s ok to lose a great talent because there is a promising young player also on the roster, particularly at a position like WR, where 2-4 are on the field at the same time.
Never said it was okay...but that Rice was not a mainstay in what was an awful offense...

That's because our most productive offensive play by far, and our best opportunity to score, was via a Rice kick return.

Oh, and for Oside to say that Gonzo "had moments"? Dude was far and away our best CB.

Wait, are saying Penry is a solid replacement for Rice? Cause it kind of sounds like you’re saying that.

Saying..from a pure production perspective...he should be able to replicate that production...

Take that anyway you choose..
So, you don’t ascribe Rices lack of production to the overall ineptitude of the offense? I mean, Penry is a fine player and all, but Rice is a potential NFL player who was ignored in the offensive scheme and as a result is transferring. Put another way - when a team is dead last in offense, any production they have should be able to be matched pretty easily. I don’t think anybody would place the blame for the overall lack of offensive production at the feet of B Rice.

Not blaming Rice....would lo e to have him...but as a dependent position, his loss not as great as say JB...or Gonzo...

Can’t fault a guy for getting his degree and wanting somebody else to pay for a master’s degree. He’s a major underdog to play professionally, so it’s pretty awesome that he wants to have a shot at winning and get a free ride for a post-grad degree. Smart guy.
I certainly don't begrudge any of the players who are leaving, I'm just pissed the program is such a ****ing dumpster fire that they all want to leave. Last man out, please turn out the lights...

Do you have good takes on any topics?

Rice was the X or Y outside receiver, mostly getting the D’s best cover corners with a safety over the top. Penry was often open (to the extent he was), in large part, due to having a better, bigger receiver on the field in the pattern with him (opening the safeties up). Take away the top receiver(s), coverage (and safeties) tightens down accordingly.

I don’t know that Penry steps smoothly into Rice’s role and handles the best cover guys. Maybe he does but comparing stats between these guys one-for-one misses what’s happening behind the stats on the field. If you only have one good receiver, he gets doubled. That was Rice.

For the record, I like Penry. I am not sure he is a replacement for Rice, either. He strikes me more like a more athletic Nelson Spruce.

I hear you. I knew that hiring Dorrell would be a disaster. It’s been a disaster. I just hope that someone in the athletic department figures that out before it’s too late.
