'20 CO TE Kole Taylor (Signed to LSU)

PSU has two things that will be tough for CU and LSU to overcome.

1. Proven TE friendly offense that produces high NFL draft picks. CU and LSU claim to be TE friendly and need to prove it starting in late August.

2. Step mom apparently an avid PSU alum.
I guess I’d take issue with number 1. They’ve had Gisecki drafted rd 2. That’s it. Jesse James is the only other tight end in the nfl and he was a 5th rd pick.

Seems a bit of a nitpick, but ok. I’ll revise my statement to “produced a high NFL draft pick in 2018 and he has the most receptions by a TE in PSU history.”

Regardless of the letter “s”, the PSU coaching staff has a huge advantage over CU and LSU when it comes to having a track record of running a TE friendly offense.

LSU doesn't have a history of having an offense friendly offense.

I guess I wasn’t trying to nitpick but giving penn st staff credit for producing tight ends after a 2&5 rd picks is kind of like crediting coach Mac for having an offense that produces wide receivers just for having Richardson get drafted rd 2 and Winfree rd 5.

I think you misread what he said, he’s saying PSU has the advantage over CU *AND* LSU. Overall I think if Kole sees MT turn this team into a physical, competitive team that has success this season- he will choose us.

Yeah, let’s not confuse Penn State with Iowa w/r/t putting TEs in the league. They do actually use their TEs, though, which is a big advantage for them in this recruitment and something CU is going to have to show this year to have a chance.

Except he plans to make a decision this month, right?

It's not truly over until they sign. Staying on in-state recruits who have given a verbal elsewhere has worked for CU before and it will again. I hope that Kole decides to wait, but I'm not giving up even if we get a frustrating announcement in the near future.

It's a big decision for the kid to make.

It's easy to see the stepmom lobbying for PSU having gone there but if he does it also means four years of games far away from home.

Grand Junction is a long way from Boulder but it is still a trip that is made easily in a one day drive, can't do that for either of the other two schools.

A new invention was made in the past 100 years, its called air travel. Grand Junction to anywhere in the US is a same day trip.

CU is taking steps for sure though. Look at the Juco influx, the focus on the recruiting of the tight end position via offers and the effort that is being put into Kole. Hell, that was one of the first visits that HCMT made. I know it has not been shown on the field as of yet but that is pretty unfair since we have not seen what Tucker and his staff are going to roll out and how it is going to morph over time with his guys getting into the program.

I think there is a shot here. He may commit to PSU this month but I know that they will work on bringing him into the heard until signing day. Tucker is making the TE a focus for sure by everything we are seeing. With the last staff, this would already be over. We will see how it plays out.

Tank of gas is way cheaper than airline tickets. And flying out of Walker field is very expensive.

Did a quick search on Expedia for a weekend in September. Shortest travel duration between Grand Junction and State College was 9 hours, 57 minutes, cheapest flight (about 4 hours longer travel time) was $616.

Not quite as easy as driving to Boulder to catch a game.

Your moving the target. Your criteria was a same day drive. Once you learned that PSU is a single day travel you switched to price. I’m not advocating for PSU but the fact is they are in the lead for the kid. Let’s see if Tucker and Pupunu can get him to CU.

No question it looks like PSU is the leader. The decision has not been made yet, at least it hasn't been announced or confirmed. Just looking at factors that might swing things in our favor.

Also I showed that in fact it isn't quite single day travel. Flying out of GJ to Penn State is clearly not a single day trip. The shortest that may be available is to fly out friday afternoon, arrive Saturday morning, see the game then fly out that night arriving in GJ on Sunday mid day. A brutal trip schedule.

At over $600 a person just for flights even a few games a year the cost is significant. Simple reality is that Boulder is much easier and a completely different cost both in money and in time.

If you were talking about a Front Range kid going to someplace like Ann Arbor or even Boston or Miami yes the travel time by air is much shorter and usually much cheaper flight options exist.

The nice thing about Walker is that you have your choice of two gates, about 20’ apart.

Where the **** did you find 10 hours? Google Boulder to Grand Junction and it’s 4 hours 11 min guy.

It actually takes 11 hours to get from boulder to Las Vegas if you were wondering

Grand Junction to Denver by air is a short hop. The Uber or car rental from DIA to Boulder takes more time than the flight if somebody wants to fly to the CU game.

State College ain't Boulder?

But Ogre got the point of the post. There obviously isn't a direct flight from GJ to State College. With flying time and transfers the shortest travel duration to come up on the Expedia screen was just short of 10 hours. That of course doesn't include check in time before flying and luggage claim at the end but point is that it is not a quick and convenient flight.

The thought of kids giving two ****s that a School being 4-5 hours away versus a School proving you have a great chance at the NFL is as dumb as people thinking Boulder sells itself in recruiting.
You're taking that as a sole reason, but CU had put people in the NFL and have a capable coach at the position.

Not really and I really hope you are right in the second half of your sentence, but the point was trying to prove that CU is closer than Penn State as a recruiting tactic.

That's where the recruiting job comes in. Penn State has a history with TEs but it isn't like they are Iowa or something in that regard. CU's job is to convince him that playing for our TE's coach gives him potentially as good a shot at the NFL as he can get elsewhere.

A lot of kids do give more than two ****s about being able to have their families come see them play regularly as well as being able to easily go home for some holidays, special occasions, or just to see their friends, etc.

Every kid makes their decision. What is important for one may mean a lot less for others. Difference is that the staffs that win will stay on with the kids they want until that kid has made it clear they are no longer being considered, not the case here.

That was part of the problem with the last staff is that is seemed in to many cases when other "bigger name" schools came in on a kid they would just give up and move on to their plan B (or plan C.)

There is no doubt that proximity matters a lot to some kids, less to others, maybe even none to some. That makes it a recruiting tactic, right?

Guys, location obviously matters to some, or even a lot of recruits. It obviously is not the main factor to Taylor when 2 of his 3 final Schools are over 1,000 miles away. He is obviously a smart kid and is looking at the right fit that gives him the best fit at playing at the next level.
