2017 Season Hype/Countdown Thread

Eh, the USC game could have easily been a 2 score win for them (JuJu took a knee on what would have been a TD late in the 4th), even with their 4 turnovers and one of our TDs coming on the long trick play. Had they played a clean game, could have been a first half blowout. They thoroughly dominated throughout the game and Montez wasn't great, but that was his 3rd career start, on the road, against a team that was arguably a top 2-3 team in the country after they made the QB change.
And if USC didn't make 2 otherworldly plays (the pick on the sideline & fighting the ball out of Spoon's hands), CU wins that game.

Gamboa, however, isn't buying the theory. Neither are his defensive teammates. Rather, the mere suggestion that the defense might take even a slight step back causes Gamboa's eyes to narrow, his jaw to clench — followed by the slightest hint of a smile, the kind of smile that suggests he knows something of which others aren't aware.

"Everyone can think what they want," the junior inside linebacker said this week. "Everyone's going to find out Sept. 1."

He's always been a little slow.

He was a RS freshman back up. No he didn't play like a Heisman candidate. Those were legitimate P5 teams though and he played like a guy who wasn't overwhelmed to be out there.

Sefo was a four year starter and other than the Michigan game in which he was playing lights out until the injury would Sefo have been way better in those games. Reasonable to say he would have been somewhat better, he was an experienced starter but Montez certainly didn't fall apart in those games like a first year QB easily could have.

Lots of QBs have looked bad against USCs athletes, Montez didn't have a great game but he also didn't panic and look like a guy who shouldn't be there.

All you can ask of a backup QB in a game against that kind of opponent is a chance to win. CU had it with Montez. Again wasn't a great or even good game but it certainly wasn't a disaster either.

You just look for growth in a situation like that and it didn't really seem like there was any against USC. I will admit the offensive line did him no favors that day but he was part of the problem there.

Idealy you have growth but that day we were simply not as good a football team as they were from a talent perspective.

He didn't get a lot of help from the OL, he also was facing some things on defense that he wasn't used to seeing.

What I look at is that in all of that he didn't panic, he didn't turtle, he didn't fall apart even when things didn't go well. Go back to Connor Wood who had all the accolades, all the expectations but when faced with the pressure fell apart. He responded so badly that they were forced to go to Sefo. Montez didn't do that. He had a bad game but he didn't lose his ability to function as a QB.

We got killed in the trenches at USC last year. They ran all over us and our run game never got going. Damn near stole that ballgame, though.

We'll likely see some stories & quotes coming out of this. (Knowing HCMM, I don't expect anything controversial.:D )

Someone has got to tell mac the top button on a polo does not get buttoned.

He's fashion forward. Ask Becks.

god I miss folsom. Last season is starting to seem like a dream.
last year was amazing... Looking at threads from this time last year... still bitching about webb over sefo... wondering if our receivers could produce with Winfree hurt... If awuzie could get some help... Man that feels like a lifetime ago

bummer about Evans, but glad he's gonna have a chance to contribute this season. That depth chart is scary after Supreme Hair Leader Lindsay.

I'm surprised we haven't had a meltdown about this yet.
Considering there hasn't been any smoke over the past few days, no further tweets by montez or anyone else on the team, my guess is it is just 20yr college kid stuff that isn't directly related to the team. So no meltdown because there is no problem.
