2018 College Football News

I think the only argument is the "all members agree" is not necessarily how it works. I think it is pretty much the P5 said this is how we are doing it and threw a bone to the G5 schools to avoid threats of anti-trust action or legislation. An NCAA sanctioned event would have given UCF a legitimate shot at the championship and require a 16 team playoff guaranteeing the winner of each conference plus 6 at large bids. Until that happens, there is no NCAA champion.
They agreed. It was either agree or the P5 breaks away, but they still agreed. And the P5 is not going to give up its bargaining position by entering a situation where a school from the Sun Belt wields as much influence as Notre Dame on this system.

OK. So it's a championship that is official in terms of all NCAA members who compete at the D1 FBS level have entered an organization to determine a champion but did it without making it an NCAA event. That's actually interesting because it points to the P5 programs wanting to have total control and not allow the NCAA to make decisions about format. But when all members of FBS agree that this is how the FBS champion is determined then it's still a real champion, no longer the "mythical national champion" crap we had before.
lol, we still have a mythical national champion in UCF

I've seen this floating around and commented on by a lot of current and former players. Is this new for 2018? This could also go into the "WTF is wrong with people" thread as why the **** do these sports leagues insist on cracking down on insignificant issues such as whether knee pads go past the knee or a back pad is showing?

I felt like they tried doing this in the late 90’s/early 00’s. At least the tucking in of/longer length jerseys, and full length socks, etc. flash forward about 15-20 years and it has come up again. Meanwhile the have a football league for scantily clad women. I mean where does the health, well-being, and safety *really* begin?!?!

Nebraska got themselves a good AD.

An internal audit has found extensive mismanagement within the budget-challenged Washington State athletic department, including the possible inflation of home football attendance figures and the improper distribution of free tickets to football games.
"The environment within Athletics ... did not support a culture of compliance or fiscal responsibility," according to the audit, which was completed in mid-April.
The document comes as leaders of the school grapple with a $67 million athletic budget deficit built up over recent years.

Denzil Ware - DL - Wildcats
Kentucky redshirt senior edge rusher Denzil Ware will transfer as a graduate.
This is a huge loss for the Wildcats. Ware (6'2/255) ranked second on the team in TFL (9.0) and third in sacks (6.5) last year. He also had two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. For all that, he earned Phil Steele All-SEC Third Team honors. And that was despite being suspended for the Music City Bowl tilt against Northwestern for an unspecified violation of team rules. That suspension may have led to his abrupt departure. Ware is now eligible to play wherever he likes immediately as a graduate. A potential NFL-caliber talent who's already accrued 27 TFL in 35 games against SEC competition, Ware will be a valuable commodity on college football's free agent circuit.

Stating the obvious, but I wonder if CU has interest with the Eliot ties and if we’d even be able to make room?

So when ‘braska starts announcing crowds of 120,000, we can call shenanigans!

Billy Cannon died today. If you get a chance, take some time to read about his incredible life (hint: it's not all rosy).

Halloween return has to be in top 10 most iconic plays on CFB history. That might be a fun thread done slow day.

The news isn't that Kansas fired its AD. The news is that he somehow lasted this long after being the guy who hired Charlie Weis.
