2018 Rocky Mountain Showdown (8/31)

It's not that so much as simply not enjoying Mile High while a game against CSU isn't all that exciting for a lot of fans.
Oh god it's half an hour away from Folsom, RG has ended the series at Mile High and it's in the middle of downtown Denver. If you can't have fun watching the Buffs at a pro stadium once a year then there is something wrong with you or you are making excuses.

I think there's something wrong with me.
So let me get this straight, you wouldn't have fun hitting some breweries downtown on the Friday afternoon of labor day weekend and then heading over to Mile High to watch your favorite college football team beat down on little brother? It might not be a great environment but aren't you one of the fans that attends the spring game?

I work in downtown Denver, it's not entirely my scene. It's fine, and I like beer and all. It's just not better than my TV.

Also, I've attended three games in Denver and we've lost them all. I'm a little superstitious.

I attend the Spring game because I love Folsom. If they held it in Denver I wouldn't attend.

Guilty. I attend the rest, but that Denver environment isn't as much fun as watching it on my TV.

Don't feel too badly. I live near the W-line in Lakewood and that would be an easy light rail trip to Mile High Stadium but I don't have the desire to go to the RMS. Had a now retired co-worker whose CSU daughter was dating a starting CSU QB (they are now married) at the time and said that even on the CSU side, the experience was horrible due to some CSU jack off fans.

I still think many of these opinions are based on experiences that are five or six years old or longer. The “experience” isn’t nearly as awful as it was ten years ago. I don’t know what happened, but it’s as if somebody at the Denver Sports Commission got on the phone with the stadium personnel and DPD and told them to lighten up.

As for Uncle Ken, you can just stay away if they lose every time you go. That’s a good reason.

TV is way better than live football. Comfort of own home, HD res, no parking hassle, replay, availability of beer and booze, snacks that don't cause diarrhea, multiple games at same time...there are many more reasons but this should be enough.

No drunk CSU kid throwing up on your 75 year old mother, chanting f*** CU.

I see far too much anxiety and “never take little brother too lightly” mentality to believe it’s not an exciting game for a lot of fans.

Do not concur.

But that's the challenge for all live sports leagues. They need to find ways to make the live experience better than the home tv experience. I would argue that seeing a game at Folsom is better than watching it on tv. That includes walking across campus, tailgating, unlimited views of the mountains, etc. Nik has mentioned this a bunch of times, but the challenge is making the in-game experience better, especially for some of the pricier seats. They've already done a lot in that area, but I expect to see more in the future.

Yep. Got to keep up with the times. Give the premium seats premium amenities so those folks are treated like VIPs. They'll pay for it.

Then, go low ticket price (making your real $ with a bunch of concession options) for the majority of the stadium to pack the house and have a crazy atmosphere. But make sure you've got the sound system, video boards, wi-fi and ancillary entertainment so that even the most casual of fans thinks it's a great time.

Concur.

But not Mile High.

WiFi is a bitch when you’re trying to provide bandwidth for 50,000 people all at the same time. This is a challenge that I hope they’ll be able to overcome soon. The in-game app is completely worthless if connectivity is as bad as it’s been.

There is WiFi at plenty of large venues, including sporting arenas, airports, convention centers, etc. Mile High has it and it's not bad.

I’ve never tried it at Mile High. I’ll give it a try this year.

If it’s not very hard to do, CU needs to do it. They came out with their in-game app three years ago and it’s basically useless if you happen to actually be, you know, at the game. It has some decent features but when the streaming audio is on a 30 second delay and cuts out all the time, it gets very frustrating.

Also cannot stand that standard seat pricing is third deck and then you can pay to upgrade to the tickets you have at Folsom. Even on years where we are the home team boat a premium to sit in a crap stadium, with a crap atmosphere. @Uncle Ken is right in that home is better for this one

I never pay extra at Mile High. The third deck is fine. I really don’t care.
