2018 Rocky Mountain Showdown (8/31)

I am just not convinced our talent is really that much better than CSU's. I know on paper it looks better, but I really think when you are outside the top 30-40 in recruiting classes, it is kind of a crap shoot. I like our general skill position talent better, but is our line talent that much better?

Don't get me wrong, I think we are the better team and will win, but I just don't think we are where we need to be talent wise (although I do think we are recently trending in the right direction). Couple my contention that the talent is not all that much better with the emotion that CSU shows in this game, and I think you end up with another close game.

Then you're in for a big surprise. The team speed on this defense is going to be nuts.

I always caution with this game, but the talent level is not close between the two teams. It really comes down to controlling CSU's handful of play makers and wearing them down with CU's depth.

Even if the talent level were the same, isn't the game experience differential pretty stark this year? I would like to be believe that our players have not only have more games under their belt, but against far better competition.

That 2010 game where Dan Hawkins called off the dogs against CSU should have convinced you that the talent gap between the two schools would get only bigger over time. And CSU only could beat CU's worst teams in program history. That alone should tell you that when CU has a decent team, the Buffs will win the game and this year's team should be at least a decent team.

And CSU lost quite a few players from last season. This year's game might really show the gap in talent this year.

Yeah and two new coordinators plus new starting QB who isn't on campus right now.

That game reminded me a lot of the 2017 game

Yeah CU's players didn't have to put in the work against the Rams that year. For as bad as CU football was under Hawkins, CU fans certainly knew that once CU got back to at least being decent in football again, the RMS would become one sided again.

If we can beat CSU by at least a few scores without having to go full blast, maybe CSU fans will realize losing the RMS would be a good thing after all. And that is after playing their first game the previous weekend for the second year in a row. CSU is desperate for a win over CU...lol!

I don't see what CSU did wrong here. But if they can find out which parent called, then they should make dame sure that their little bundle of joy does not share their world view before granting admission.
Nothing particularly and I am indifferent to the institution. However, I've had such a negative experience with CSU fans due to one stupid football game a year I don't mind disseminating anything that remotely reflects poorly on them.

Now you are on board the buffalo train of world domination. Except we should win by 4 scores against them every year. This year I would hope for 6-7 scores as our win margin. Time to go up a level.

We have history on our side

What's up with that forfeit in '97?

skippy played an ineligible player in 97 and we "forfeited" all our wins that year. douche that he was. then, he skipped off to wreck the washington program and we hired barnett after kubiak accepted the job and was announced as the new hc and then changed his mind.

New coordinator and new QB who won't be on campus until summer. And the defense appears depleted. I smell a 44-7 beat down type of game.

Doesn't Bobo still call plays there? If he does, who holds that title doesn't matter. They were a team last year who some (Phil Steele for one) said could get the Group of 5's NY6 spot, and we were far and away the better football team. Need to treat them like we did in '16-our foot doesn't come off the gas pedal.

Two years in a row. I think we could have dropped another 21 on them last year had we tried to.
I think they became a little more conservative in the 4th quarter, once it was clear the offense was not in sync, but you really think the staff was OK with putting up 17 points last year?

They made the decision to let up, didn't they? Should have kept doing what we were doing and tried to figure out what was going on offensively in the 2nd half that night.

I'll tell you why CU has been letting up. MacIntyre is playing chess while the rest of you are playing checkers. The last thing he wants is for Bobo to be fired. However, now that Bobo's locked into a new long-term deal MM can finally take the kid gloves off this year.

They put up 17 points pretty quickly in the 1st quarter iirc. They didn’t let up for the final 3 quarters.
