2018 Rocky Mountain Showdown (8/31)

They gave away gold t-shirts to every student ticket holder every year when I was at CU. Pick up your ticket, pick up your shirt at the same time. That seemed to work pretty well.
It worked great. That practice ended in 2013 when it was decided that "yellow gold" didn't fit in with the university's desired "branding". They removed everything yellow-gold from the bookstore as well.
Consequently the student sections on warm game days early in the season have definitely lacked a certain visual spirit the last few years if you ask me. A mix of white, black and silver/grey shirts looks pretty meh to me. I remember printing out photos of the 2011 Cal student section (gold) and the 2014 Hawaii student section (salt and pepper mix), showing them to marketing and saying "can you really tell me that this is an improvement?". They were not moved.
HOWEVER...I have seen this year's Herd shirts and they are the classic yellow-gold. I have also been told that this year's freshman welcome shirts are yellow-gold. So there may be hope yet that "gold rushes" can once again happen at Folsom.

I think another big piece about the t-shirts is that’s Rick George doesn’t want to spend money on them. He’s big on improving facilities and investing directly into the team. Bohn, on the other hand, invested more into marketing. For example, he flew students out to Vegas for the PAC-12 tourney.

As much as I’d love T-shirts in every fan’s hands for free, I love new facilities and a winning football program more. Plus, winning generates more money, so you can potentionally throw more money around following more winning.

That’s also why in 2017, the student section gave away more free stuff. It followed a season with 10 wins.

Really nice to see Bobo out of the hospital and able to go to practice.

Good news. Still would think he coaches Saturday and maybe against us from the booth-not sure you want a guy who was hospitalized for numbness in his legs standing for long periods of time yet.
