2020 CU football season POSTPONED until Nov 6th?

I wouldn’t be surprised if we not only move to a Spring season, but that it will also be conference games only. 12 weeks, 10 games. Two bye weeks. Five home games, five road games. Then do the same thing again in Fall 2021 to help re-set the season schedule.

I'm really wishing I had gotten into the esports business. Huge opportunities right now.

As in watching esports? Tried that myself even if I understood how to play the game and I didn't stick with that.

As participating in esports? That's going to take a lot of time and some thick skin since some games have pretty toxic communities.

As owning an esports team? That could be Allsome as long as you are willing to spend some money.

Someone with experience in the esports business had this to say: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/how-start-esports-team-without-breaking-bank-mark-flood

I tried getting into esports but I'm not able to stick with that and end up going back to the games I usually play. Nothing wrong with trying esports out and seeing if it's for you or not. The nice thing about esports is that I think a larger pool of people would be able to participate as opposed to sports so I imagine the competition is going to be intense.

Formal announcement from the Big 10 -

"
We are facing uncertain and unprecedented times, and the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, game officials, and others associated with our sports programs and campuses remain our number one priority.

To that end, the Big Ten Conference announced today that if the Conference is able to participate in fall sports (men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball) based on medical advice, it will move to Conference-only schedules in those sports. Details for these sports will be released at a later date, while decisions on sports not listed above will continue to be evaluated. By limiting competition to other Big Ten institutions, the Conference will have the greatest flexibility to adjust its own operations throughout the season and make quick decisions in real-time based on the most current evolving medical advice and the fluid nature of the pandemic.

This decision was made following many thoughtful conversations over several months between the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors, Directors of Athletics, Conference Office staff, and medical experts including the Big Ten Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Big Ten Sports Medicine Committee.

In addition, the Conference announced that summer athletic activities will continue to be voluntary in all sports currently permitted to engage in such activities. Furthermore, Big Ten student-athletes who choose not to participate in intercollegiate athletics at any time during the summer and/or the 2020-21 academic year due to concerns about COVID-19 will continue to have their scholarship honored by their institution and will remain in good standing with their team.

While Big Ten member institutions continue to rely on the most up-to-date medical information to establish the best protocols for voluntary workouts on their campuses, in compliance with local and state regulations, the Conference is working with the Big Ten Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Big Ten Sports Medicine Committee to finalize Conference-wide protocols.

As we continue to focus on how to play this season in a safe and responsible way, based on the best advice of medical experts, we are also prepared not to play in order to ensure the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes should the circumstances so dictate.

I guess I could see a scenario where conference games only could work. You can really restrict what's going on within a league and can almost ensure 3-5 byes throughout the season. You could possibly give your team two weeks off in the middle of the season to get healthy as well. At least that's my pie in the sky theory.

I think the only conferences that are against it are the sec and the big 12. The big 12 because they can only play 9 games (which is probably not an issue the way things are going right now) and the sec because they are a bunch of bitches about scheduling.

AD is offering season ticket holders who've paid these options
• The ability to donate that money to funds within the Buff Club to support the welfare of our student-athletes.
• Keeping that money on your account as credit toward future purchases.
• Receiving a refund for the value of the games not played.

Honestly don't know where I will go with this. I don't expect to use my tickets. I'm leaning towards (B) which sort of defers things. kicks it down the road.
All options preserve your seats for 2021.

So far about 155 years.

Not to minimize reality, but poor CSU. They get their one shot in FC due to scheduling and even screw that up.

Totally stupid. The conference-only restriction eliminates 20% of the risk, at best? If the risk is so high that a 20% reduction is meaningful, just call it and eliminate 100% of the risk.

2020 is the worst.

Approaching this in stages is fine. And trying to salvage what you possibly can, no matter how unlikely, is perfectly understandable. There's no need to cancel the whole thing just yet.

I think it’s more about buying time than assuming every game has the same risk and only reducing by 20%.

That said, the extra month is probably not enough.

Yes, going from "we're cancelling the whole thing" to "hey, XYZ is showing it can be done, so we're gonna try to salvage what's possible also" is easier than going the other way around.

Look at what happened in Europe.

As of Wednesday, 51 Division I teams, 56 Division II teams and 52 Division III teams have been dropped by four-year colleges for reasons related to the pandemic, according to the Associated Press.
