2020 CU football season POSTPONED until Nov 6th?

Here's how this plays out (with 100% confidence):

Pac 12 postpones but SEC/ACC/BIG/Big-12 all play this fall.

The conferences that play are hit with skyrocketing cases of coronavirus. 5% of those cases result in hospitalizations. Of those hospitalizations, 10% result in death. Many athletes' careers are ended due to long-term respiratory and cardiovascular damage. It's a disaster, resulting in finger-pointing and shattered dreams. Scott Frost becomes the focal point of the outrage.

The PAC offers its football players and fans (with their signed concurrence) to test a new vaccine in the Spring.

Spring ball is played. Stadiums are full across the Pac-12 and the atmosphere of college football is on full display. The fans and athletes of other conferences watch jealously (but still watch). Direct TV is forced to pick up the Pac-12 network, as it's the only show in town. The elite athletes from other conferences that aren't otherwise damaged or dead, enter the transfer portal in order to play in the elite conference of champions. The PAC emerges from the ashes of the other conferences as the dominant conference in college football.

Bama Charlie returns to Allbuffs and posts "y'all don't take football seriously enough."

Wouldn’t you think the medial advisory boards would be echoing the same things to the programs? Why would the SEC board say they are still good to go but then the big 10 and pac 12 programs get super freaked out based on what the heard? Seems like someone isn’t doing their job

I think the "someone(s)" you are referring to are the university presidents, and they're listening for ADs, coaches, donors, and politicians over the medical personnel.

yeah, me too.

the argument for playing, near as i can tell, basically goes: hey they are probably safer here in a controlled environment where we are taking measures and they have immediate access to care.

but, the truth is, we don't know if that assertion holds water, especially considering the factors you mention.

we DO know that not playing is the only FOR SURE way to not see student athletes become sick and spread the virus from playing football.

I don't understand the argument that the players suddenly won't be safe if they don't play games this fall. It's not like these kids will all drop out of school if the season is cancelled. Unless the schools pull their scholarships, they should still be on campus, be provided housing, be provided access to facilities in a safe manner, be provided access to medical services (including testing). Assuming the players all comply with precautions that should be in place whether or not games are played, there's absolutely no reason that the players couldn't or shouldn't be as safe as if games are played. If anything, they should be safer because you eliminate travel and you eliminate interaction with other population groups.

The underlying subtext of these arguments is that if we can't play games and make money off our student athletes, we're going to cut them loose and provide nothing. **** that noise.

Yeah, this tells me one of two things. Either the pac medical officials are not sharing this info or the acc officials are ignnoring this info. Both scenarios are scary and part of the reason why we are in this mess to begin with.
Didn't that release say B1G officials had also seen the data? Doesn't make sense to share with only one other conference.

I understand the B1G has already seen the cardio data, including 5 athletes in conference, if I read the ESPN report correctly.

I didn't read it, was just spit ballin what I thought was happening. It's what we do in the USA!

This confirms my biggest concerns about the plans in place. Basic questions have not been answered.
The most influential programs in the conference (tOSU, PSU, Michigan) are basically telling the Presidents and conference to **** off and that they are going to play no matter what, so figure it out.

That does not really explain why none of this was previously discussed. Was there no contingency if a fall season was abruptly shut down? That would make zero sense.

Agreed. I don't think the idea that there wouldn't be a Fall season was ever truly considered until the last week or two.

college sports are balkanized with no real central power and especially football.

we have federalism and states rights in government.

our strategy in both cases is disparate ideas depending on region and a national strategy of hopes and prayers.

sigh.

I was reading through some the Michigan State boards and a lot of them are already turning on Midnight Mel because of how terribly they are recruiting. lol COVID + B1G canceling the season is only gonna hurt it even worse. Ohio State is already losing highly ranked players.

I’ll be interested to see how much this benefits the SEC and Big-12 IF they end up playing.

Seems inevitable the Pac-12 will follow with a postponement announcement tonight. Going to see some major ripples in the next 72 hours.
