No one is irreplaceable.
Summers ran a system that the players were familiar with. I'm not ready to trust KD on his decisions on S&C and DC changes that need to be made. If he's some sort of great HC, then these are the types of decisions that a guy makes. I hope to get there on the trust part, but I'm not there yet.
Tyson Summers is, incredible DC.

Summers is good, but he is still replaceable. Will reserve judgement until I see the replacement. Won't shock me if Chev is next. Maybe Chev gets a head coach gig.

you will be among the first to criticize his replacement, so you wouldn't be happy either way

At worst it will be a wash. Below average coordinators who don't recruit are a dime a dozen.
There is evidence he is average. But good? Meh. I liked the continuity for this year, but Karl's got a chance to upgrade now.

I look forward to revisiting this take next year.
I certainly don't think Summers was an elite DC, but he did a an above average job with the pieces he had to work with. I don't see us going out and scraping the bargain bin and finding someone that is on par.
The problem is Summers is partly responsible for what he had to work with.

That seems like reductio ad absurdum. Fired for having too much energy, eh?
Reports are he's prickly and hard to get along with. His defense is also really complicated and takes players years to become proficient in. This news comes as a surprise, but if we end up with an NFL retread, I'll trust Dorrell's judgement until proven otherwise... after all, we had a lot of success with NFL retreads in the past.
As too many plays showed this year, his defense was boom or bust and often depended on one guy being great for it to function. And, he didn't recruit. Could things get worse? Sure. But this is an aggressive, power move. Not used to seeing that from CU coaches.
