I’m way too behind in this thread to know if this has been posted yet. Dimitri Stanley was interviewed on News 4 and addressed why he and Rice left. This will shock most of you but he said they weren’t getting enough touches and want to go somewhere where they can showcase their talents.

Now, I get that they were underutilized. But the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the portal. I’ve always believed that NFL scouts are smart enough to see talent even when it’s underutilized. OTOH, there’s a lot more money being a draft pick than an un-drafted free agent.

Oh, one more thing. They interviewed McChesney in the piece. The guy …. never mind.

That was a classy response by Stanley. It's definitely part of the reason. I'm sure that he talked to coaches about his 2022 role and being marked as the primary return guy while getting to play on the outside with 6+ targets per game was not in the plan. I don't think most of us would have wanted that to be the plan.

I’d imagine going through this assistant coaching change created a lot of uncertainty for some of these guys. And if they have NFL dreams, they wanted something less risky in their minds. I still think that if you have the talent they (NFL) will find you.

He was in the program for almost 5 years. He is what he is. Nothing more than a depth piece. If CU can't improve upon him then they are in a world of trouble. You don't rely on 5th or 6th year seniors as depth pieces.

I am not saying he is a P5 player or a great piece of the team. The point is that he would have been a starter next year. They have not brought in talent better than he is and will not in the portal either. I am not a Lytle fan by any stretch but the main point is they are not bringing in guys who are better than the ones they are either running off or cannot keep. The team is getting worse

Odds they win the PAC12 are probably better than even money. Odds they make the CFP are decent, I’d think.

I think they'll lose to Utah and ND, and also one other unexpected loss because they will just "USC". 9-3, no CFP.

I said it in the Barzil thread but he should go play for Norvell at CSU. Would instantly be their best player and WR1 and would get to showcase his abilities more in a pass happy offense. He’s just never going to be that guy at the P5 level
 
NFL scouts watch everything, not just one year. They will still watch his Colorado tape. The problem with Stanley is he is not conistent enough. He his fast, but not a game breaker. Doesn't have the size, speed and catching ability that will scare NFL teams. It will surprise me if he is drafted. There are so many good receivers that go into the draft every year. But anything is possible. Wish him the best.

Yep. Guys will understand if they don't get opportunities to make plays because someone beat them out. But we can't have a guy like Rice, who had the talent for Riley & USC to want to poach him, be our WR1 and only get 21 receptions for a season after only getting 6 the previous year. Backup TEs get that on other teams. This has to be fixed in a major way or there's no way WRs will choose CU. Could you imagine being the 2nd - 4th option in the pass game when the 1st option only gets that?

What percentage of plays were called for BRice but never worked due to The Swiss Cheese Incident OL? I’m sure quite a few but we will never know

I think—maybe—this falls into a perception issue. Sneed knows he is—by far—WR1 here. He will get all the targets, and we can’t be AS bad next year. Maybe a bit like D. Thomas when he was the ONLY receiver for Georgia Tech, even though they ran the option. Still a first round pick. At Baylor Sneed is one of many good receivers. Only thing I can think of. I was really surprised, too.

New OC, QB, OL, TE and WR coaches.
New offensive scheme.
New QB or same QB with a year of experience.

Just as nobody made much of an issue about the offense going into 2021, maybe we should believe it can improve going into 2022

Honestly, I got what I asked for so it's hard for me to complain too much. After the first 3 games of the season, I wanted the entire offensive staff fired & replaced. That has happened, besides Hagan. KD agreed with what we were saying, but was more measured and deliberate in how quickly he moved & how "new school" he was willing to go with his system. That's understandable and may be a good thing that he's nowhere near as reactionary as we fans. I can definitely see that they have a lot to sell to recruits/transfers now compared to during the season through December signing day.

Absolutely appreciate the optimism. Just wish he had shared this plan with all the starters who left. Apparently, Gonzales left while KD was out on a recruiting trip, and KD never had a chance to talk to him about it.

As much talent as these guys have worth wondering if KD didn't mind seeing them go considering that the position coach in question may still be in their ears.

When you are as bad as we were it's kind of like tearing down the rest of a house that has already partially burned. Try to fix it up you still have the the lingering smell and heat damage that may not be obvious at first glance.

Why would they stick around for their last season on a rebuilding team that best case scenario is better than people think and might win 5 games, when they can go to CFP contenders?

If they can't find better talent than Lytle then nothing else matters because this program will be a disaster. I am not worried about this loss at all.

but really this is the story going forward. How do you rebuild if you lose your best players while in development?

That’s about right. To me, this says it all— D. Stanley to Ch 4 News:

“I just felt that entering the transfer portal was going to give me the best opportunity. I felt that I wasn’t really being utilized enough at CU,” Stanley said. “I just wanted to step away and find the best opportunity where I can flourish.”

With two years of eligibility remaining and dreams of making it to the NFL, Stanley wants the chance to properly showcase his talents.

“I’m just looking for somewhere that can get me the ball. I’m looking for somewhere that can get me 70 or 80 touches. I feel like if I get that, I’ll be able to reach all my goals and be able to show NFL scouts what I can do,” Stanley said.

“It’s just guys kind of like me, just trying to find a better opportunity, feeling like CU wasn’t get the job done. So it’s just time to find somewhere new.”

All that’s true but the CU athletic department has a well documented history of failure to execute, particularly in football. There’s zero reason to believe those changes will amount to anything but continued futility.

Even with the offensive losses, we will be better on O next season.

However:
1) We need to be twice as good to even be average
2) I’m expecting the D to take a step back with all the losses
