2024-25 Coaching Carousel

The last 3 weeks probably mean Jeff Grimes' name will be hot in this thread. He was much discussed in the post Kardboard search thread that just got necro'd the other day.
He has been an up and down coach, he should go to G5 and put a few good years together

Feels like he’s been holding out for the right job but it didn’t work out at Baylor last year and it’s basically either hang out as KUOC with new players next year and hope it works, or maybe take a G5 gig.

There will always be a few unexpected openings whether they be unexpected firings or guys leaving for the NFL.
Retirements and NFL defections seem increasingly likely after the shakeout from the NCAA settlement is known. I don't think many coaches like players being paid.

I'd debate you a little bit on your last sentence. I think coaches don't mind players being paid. Gundy talked about a kid they got from a D2 in like Pennsylvania-effectively said they took a chance on him because their NIL allowed them to.

I think the problem is this is the free for all that this sport is. You've gotta have some regulation, and a governing body that has the balls to enforce this stuff. The Matt Sluka thing earlier this year was odd. Agents can't be operating in states where they aren't registered, and frankly the whole point of NIL is to open the door for athletes to make enough money to easily make ends meet in college. That's your norm in my view-not Travis and Shedeur (both of whom are making millions while playing here). I'm not sure what the ideal solution is here, but I've got one for the portal.

To me, here's the solution for the portal. I'd allow every athlete to enter the portal one time in college with no consequences. With that said, we can't have cases like JT Daniels (who played for USC, Georgia, West Virginia, and Rice) and Jaden Rashada (who has been on rosters at Florida, Arizona State, and now Georgia). After that one free transfer, its time for kids to move down a level barring some exceptions-with coaching changes being the most obvious example of what I'm talking about.

You act like NIL was some charity decision or favor from the NCAA. The whole point of NIL was for the NCAA to stop breaking the law by barring people from making money off their own name, image and likeness. It's intent is for players to make as much money as possible, not just "to make ends meet in college".

"Your solution" is exactly what the NCAA implemented a few years ago, until it was sued and they were forced to allow unlimited transferring.

2-year contracts with first right to renew at the end for another 2-year contract
Any player that ends the first 2 year contract and does not want to stay at the same school would be allowed into the portal with a transfer value attached that the other school has to compensate the previous school
5th year players are true free agents no matter what, and ALL players get 5 years, no redshirting
Add in Retirement and Medical Benefits, including some type of COBRA

His greatest role would be to the President of Football Operations, pretty much a CEO. He has put so much into that program and built them up very nicely, and they have a very good successor.
That can work (Alvarez at Wisconsin) or it can cast too long of a shadow and be an issue (Snyder at KSU).
