2024/25 TENNIS pre-season and season news, results and discussion

I was able to make the final regular season match (although a little late due to bicycle trouble).

It was a thrilling match that CU, still missing 2 of its top players, lost 3-4 to the #33 Wildcats.

In what, at least from reviewing scores this season, was a common story, the shorthanded Buffs were SO close yet SO far. CU started strong, getting the doubles point and winning 4 of the 6 singles 1st sets. #1 singles Buff and graduating senior Mila Stanojevic had a GREAT match, defeating ASU's #49 ranked player convincingly (6-2, 6-4) to get the Buffs up 2-0 or 2-1 (the ASU #2 singles player was the only other one who had a relatively convincing win.) The other 4 matches all went 3 sets, although from 2 matches I watched the damage ended up being done in the 2nd set. In one of those, the Buff won the 1st set 6-4, then had AT LEAST 3 match points on serve receive late in the 2nd, I believe at 5-3 or 5-4. Unfortunately, she couldn't convert any and ended up losing the tiebreaker 4-7 before losing the 3rd at love. In the other, a Buff had a 15-30 lead in a potential match game and, after a beautiful LONG point went back and forth for at least 15-20 strokes, she was able to work it so that she earned an overhead to earn 2 match points, but unfortunately sailed the overhead long and ended up losing that game and another one or two before losing her 2nd set tiebreaker 1-7 and 3rd set 2-6.

Now it's on to the conference championships (scheduled to begin next Wednesday) where the Buffs will have a tough challenge from the beginning as they'll be facing one of the Big 12's best as they'll be somewhere in the 13-15 seed range.

Even with the tough loss, it was a VERY exciting sporting event. Thanks to the team and all those who support it!
