UA - Win
@WVU - Tough win
ASU - Tough loss
@KSU - Loss
He's most likely guilty, but I predict he won't miss a workout, a practice or a game. This will all disappear and be a whisper in the wind by game 1. The LDS will make sure of it.This is my long post for the Week/Month. I have been doing less of these.
Looking at CU's schedule, the biggest question mark is BYU. CU wins they are hopefully 5-0 or 4-1 with a big home win. BYU's season is probably tied QB Jake Retzlaff's situation, one way or another. Presently, it is a local and national media hurricane. This could be a time-bomb and total team distraction, so BYU could be in shambles or maybe somehow float through the season. BYU's OCC games are not very competitive, so that bodes well for them going into CU, but Stanford might surpise. IMO, CFB is such an emotional roller-coaster every season for every team and player, that makes this game is a big unknown. Same thing with the quality of CU's QB play, whoever is playing.

Provo Police Department faces scrutiny in civil lawsuit against BYU's Jake Retzlaff
The Provo Police Departmend faced scrutiny after an anonymous woman said an officer told her"sexual assault victims never get justice."We're getting a look atkutv.com
I believe in innocent until proven guilty. However, sometimes civil proceedings are a prelude to criminal charges. Right now it is a civil suit with a stiff attorney denial, however BYU is now forced to conduct their own Title IX investigation. BYU still has that code of conduct, but one article says only 5 students have been expelled--maybe more suspended. Who knows if they immediately enforce it against their star QB?
Provo police has to conduct an internal investigation (probably by an outside agency) since it appears there is a rape kit out there and she eventually gave JR's name to Provo police early on--tons of finger pointing both ways on this issue; but not much of a written report. One fact that keeps popping up and is very obscurely reported on is: "She eventually did tell Provo police Retzlaff's name, and an officer reportedly asked her if he was the same football player a previous complaint had been filed against." That seems to come from the early Provo officer. Are they referring to a similar incident involving a different women/student complaint--or two reports from the same women? Any body cam footage? If not, why? Also, if Provo Police victim's unit subsequently followed up, they should have pretty good records on this. It just seems to be a bad look for Provo Police and they are feeling the media heat.
If the DA or maybe the State AG get involved (County DA recuses or State AG just steps in), Retzlaff will probably be facing an initial criminal investigation at a minimum. He can request a lawyer probably avoiding questioning. However, they will also look into his stays at Golden West College in 2021 and Riverside City College in 2022 before signing with BYU in January 2023. Why two JUCO's in 2 years--who knows? Also, JR will eventually sit for a civil deposition. I cannot not envision JR and the student quickly settling the civil lawsuit to make this go away early, as even without an admission of liability, confidentiality and an NDA, BYU will still has the Title IX, Code of Conduct and Student Safety investigation that JR and the student will have to participate. Presumably they cooperate and give truthful interviews, even if there are two versions of events. I do not think "I'm not answering . . . NDA" would go very well in this venue for either party. There will be other witnesses interviewed, as the civil suit names multiple Doe defendants.
JR just playing through all of this will be a distraction and huge stressor for him/the team. If criminal charges are filed, probably there will be no-contact order and maybe a ban from campus. The alleged incident occurred in November 2023, thereafter BYU brought in two transfer QB's thereafter (reason could be that JR was not yet a proven commodity) in 2024, but they also brought in a Stanford QB late in the Spring Portal and adding another Frosh. Whispers have always been a part of a college football locker-rooms--players, coaches and staff. Again, the civil suit adds unnamed Doe defendents, so this could be a real sh*t show. Despite having a Heisman candidate QB, BYU seems to have brought in a ton of extra QB insurance should JR be a no-go.
For what it is worth. Go Buffs!
BYU has cracked down hard in the past for things that amounted to honor code violations. The comment was this DL is better than last years, and I simply pointed out that on paper and by stating names. This DL has regressed on paper relative to last year.... now if the argument is that all the returning players are now X percent better than they were last year. Well, that argument can be made... however the same argument can be made for the guys that left. So, it really comes down to is Oatis/Lightfoot on the interior that much of a gain over all the depth we lost on the Edge that was partially redundant. I still suspect that the DL will be similar to last year's overall. Good with moments of great against the run and very good at rushing the passer. BJ Green and Nwankwo aren't getting the credit they deserve. They were dang good players last year and are gone. Hayes went to Texas A&M... last time I checked that schools no slouch. And McCoy took a starting job at Ok State instead of sticking around to rotate in/out at CU with all the other edge guys.Fair question. Here's my counter-point:
The interior trio of Jeheim Oatis, Anquin Barnes, and Amari McNeill are BIG – they average over 6’4” and 315 pounds. I think McNeill may have been CU's best defender down the stretch last season and he should start from that baseline this fall. He improved tremendously over the course of last season. Oatis had 52 tackles at Alabama. Barnes is a space eater at 345 pounds, up 40 pounds from last year. These 3 are all big time tackles. When was the last time CU had that kind of talent up front?
There's depth inside, too. Tawfiq Thomas is another nice player. Garvriel Lightfoot gives CU another 300+ pounder that started 27 games over 3 seasons at Fresno State.
On the outside, Arden Walker will be the man. Walker was 6th in pass-rushing snaps last year for CU but finished 2nd in hurries. Now he’s the full-time starter. If he doesn’t crack double-digit sacks, I’ll be surprised. He gave Seaton fits in the Spring Game.
On the other end is returning starter Sam Okunlola. Okunlola started 10 games last season, finishing with 30 tackles and 3 sacks. Depth is provided by Keaton Wade, who shned in his minutes last year, and the transfer from Oklahoma State. Add the 2 true freshman that may have caused Taje McCoy to transfer (which is what I've heard) --- Alexander McPherson and London Merrit) -- and CU should be really good outside, too.
I think this will be the best defensive line at CU in a generation.
BJ Green was a loss but Dayon Hayes played in 4 games and McCoy was a backup. The comment was this DL is better than last years, and I simply pointed out that on paper and by stating names. This DL has regressed on paper relative to last year.... now if the argument is that all the returning players are now X percent better than they were last year. Good point. And Ratzlaff is Jewish, so maybe they won't hesitate to throw him under the bus. Especially if they have an LDS QB waiting in the wings.BYU has cracked down hard in the past for things that amounted to honor code violations. I'm in "wait and see" mode for how they will handle it.
I won a Heisman with Okunlola, too!I know you guys are waiting for the most important analysis:
I've run 2 different CU dynasties starting with the current team. Both times, Sam Okunlola won the Heisman his senior year.
Total lock for Buff greatness!
We try to find stuff that not everybody else is talking about.I've read a lot of good stuff about Sincere Brown, but hadn't seen this.
"Brown is probably the fastest player on CU’s team per sources (he was teammates at South Florida with Jimmy Horn Jr. and Xavier Weaver, and they both admit that Brown is faster than they were)."
In 2023, Salter led the nation in 'forced missed tackles' with 57.
With the huge OL, we should be fun to watch.
We try to find stuff that not everybody else is talking about.![]()
First, kiss my ass.All of that is fine, but why point it out on another website? Isn't your website good enough? Are you jealous because a poster is quoting your stuff? Are you just trying to drive more people to your website? What is your goal? Is your goal to eventually be a pay-for CU site? Is it to be the best CU website? Is it to replace this or other sites?
I do find some of your articles informative and intriguing. I find others off-base and wanting. I do find it odd that in the article referred you refer to and define a: "CU Sponsored State Media." Can you articulately explain/disclose who the CU Sponsored State Media consists of? You see, I need to know whether they are a better source than your site.
Who is the head of the State Sponsored Media--Prime, RG, the AD staff or some combination thereof? Or is it other potential culprits: Sean Keeler (I don't think he is allowed to ask questions)? Stuart (I really like his site)?; Uncle Kneely (I like his stuff)? Adam (ditto)? Howell (he has been around for a while and seems to know some stuff)? Prime's inside media/video team (they may have the best info but not ready to share it)? Buffs SI? @Da Lama (he has some good takes)?
First, kiss my ass.
Second, the CU sponsored state media is the team of people that are inside filming and covering the team whose access wholly depends on their not getting things out that the program doesn’t want out. That’s all I will say for now about that.
Honestly I’d engage a bit more but you bore me.First, carry my jock and stinky ass shoes Frosh!!
Second, thanks for answering one of my questions: CU sponsored state media is on the inside doing it's thing and appear to divulge things in the program's best interest, rather than giving away the future playbook. Therefore, you (Sean Keeler??) appear are on the outside, hence a speculator or would that be a prospector (I think once upon a time those guys looked for gold, silver and maybe oil/coal)? No wonder basically every P-4 team has closed practices and media ranks for many years now.
Third, personally, I like how Prime and RG pretty much run a tight lipped program, albeit with all Prime's pizzazz and the awesome exposure. Applications to CU are up!
First, kiss my ass.

I think there is more of a balance with size and speed this year than last year.I could honestly see this WR room being better than last year? Obviously remains to be proven (provided KS can throw over a 60% completion), and you really can't replace Travis. If nothing else we certainly reloaded.
He's not out. Nothing to see here.If Prime is out, what are your season expectations?
CU goes sub-Prime?If Prime is out, what are your season expectations?
He’s Jewish, not Mormon. Won’t apply to him.BYU has cracked down hard in the past for things that amounted to honor code violations. I'm in "wait and see" mode for how they will handle it.
I think that Prime set us up for success by having Shurmur and Livingston as Coordinators very deliberately.I just hope he get better, his health is more important than anything.
I feel like every time **** like (controversy) this happens, the dude/team/coach just ends up playing lights out - Newton, Winston, Bush, Michigan, Urban Meyer, Manziel, UGA race car drivers…This is my long post for the Week/Month. I have been doing less of these.

The visits are good but CU stands little chance when recruiting 4/5* without the NIL to back it.I'm with @Da Lama, I'm not worried about Prime. I'm sure he has been very engaged with the team even from afar. Probably, some downtime and recharging his batteries is good. Also, on some levels I think he needs to let the coordinators and assistants do there thing establishing strong bonds with the players. That said, I will be excited when Prime is back and we start getting more news tidbits.
I have not been paying much attention to the HS recruiting. I'm not worried as Prime has always done his closing much later in the process. Sounds like we are getting the caliber of players to visit, which we want. Some teams may have coach departures, which will put guys back on the market.
I'll be watching USC some this year. They are blowing away the 2026 HS recruiting, however Lincoln Riley is on thin ice, although he has a huge buy-out. The prognosticators always rate USC higher than they should be. This year will be playing an extremely young team. They lost a ton of talent in the off season, and of their new transfers in, when you take out the K/P and the 3rd string QB of the equation they only add 13-14 transfers with some are underclassman that may not be ready. If they flop, their HS recruiting class could get on the market.
I still like our chances this year. Actually, I think the roster might be incrementally better experienced, move overall team talent and depth, even with the huge losses to graduation and a few contributors in the portal. TH is impossible to replicate, but we have good guys.
I’ll wait and see how this cycle goes. The hold up with Primes extension was NIL related and all of it was presumably taken care of. I’ve also been told a couple things:The visits are good but CU stands little chance when recruiting 4/5* without the NIL to back it.
Just look at the May visits on 5/2 & 5/8 - is CU actually a contender for these guys when they're getting high 6 into 7 figure bags from other schools?
Prime would KILL it at CU in the pre-NIL era but I'm growing more and more concerned about the inability to compete outside of unicorns like Hunter and Lewis who weren't all about the bag, could throw Seaton in there potentially but not sure what CU ultimately threw his way.
Honor code absolutely still applies to him. Everyone that attends BYU, regardless of religion, must sign and adhere to the honor code contract. He’s Jewish, not Mormon. Won’t apply to him.
