'22 TX QB Owen McCown (SIGNED to COLORADO)

It's all relative. A freshman is just as likely to be better than an upperclassman and win the starting job at CU as at Alabama.
If a kid is physically, mentally, and emotionally ready to start at Colorado pretty good chance he is getting recruited by multiple programs that are better than we are.

Now if you want to say that a freshman at Alabama who isn't starting is likely to be better than anything we have at CU including upperclassmen then that would likely be a correct statement.

Keep in mind that our guys last name is McCown, not Manning. Could he become our best guy? Could he end up outperforming recruiting expectations and become a star? I hope so and it is possible but just keep in mind that he isn't a guy who was recruited by those other schools for a reason, he still has some developing he needs to do.

Your take is hardly worth a reply, but I will take the bait.

Kopp is in year 2 of CFB and was here for the full spring. He's clearly been passed by a true freshman who arrived just weeks ago.
Carter may have been passed and he's entering year 3.

You can't expect a true frosh to come into summer and take over the starting job, no matter how bad the room is. Not QB.
Sefo Liufau says hi.

That's a big consideration. You only burn that redshirt if it's for a long-term situation. If it's a late season game, you get through with Carter.
Aren’t they still doing the 4-game freebie? He could both play and redshirt. Chances are that he wouldn’t be playing much the first 5-6 games anyway.

I thought there was something about playing after the first 4 games or something. But that could have been an old rule related more to injury redshirts. I haven't been keeping up and the extra COVID year has really thrown me off (Sami, I think, is a 6th year junior).

He's only in year 5. You'd have to have a red shirt year, an injury year, and a covid year to be a 6th year junior.

Old rule was that if a player played a single snap after the first four games he lost that year of eligibility.

Current rule says that a player can appear in no more than four games at any point in the season and retain that year of eligibility.
