'23 TNFR S Shilo Sanders (Committed to COLORADO)

I think it’s probably closer to this. I think he’ll surprise us with his 40. Seems like a guy that doesn’t play as fast as he tests. Which obviously isn’t good for the NFL but may help him get noticed.
Watching All 22s, he plays fast. He's just doesn't have much acceleration for a safety and that's noticeable but Shilo definitely plays fast.

He doesn't suck. He's what you want from a SS in today's two safety or one single safety high coverage. Would I love him in 2004, hell no, but in 2025, I like him. Especially with consideration to your average SS. Now, is he ever going to live up to the Sanders name billing, no. Over the last two years, with the exception of the KSU game, he's generally giving you a good PFF grade of around 76. Plays a modern role and that's hard to find.

I like him as a NFL prospect a lot more than Cam just because Cam role is hard to play in the NFL. Budda Baker does it but he's elite at it. Cam is just solid. That's a difficult role to play in the NFL. Maybe he can, he's a better player than Shilo is but that's a difficult role to play as a FS who can be a nickel when needed while stopping the run and having so much space to monitor. The athleticism and mentality is there for sure with Cam. I am just not sure on the ability for the next level. At the end of the day with both players, we are talking about Day 3 at the earliest 5th but most likely 6th or 7th round. For Cam, moreso 7th and UDFA.
I understand you feel that way, but I’ve got 2 full years of watching him play which says otherwise lol

There’s really no way you can spin all that tape to convince me he’s good and not a liability tbh

The tape speaks well of him. If you don't feel that way, then it is what it is.

I've heard a number of pros talk about 40 times. They say they run 40's in pre-draft workouts and never run one again. After a guys first day in training camp measurables like 40 times, height, weight, bench numbers, etc are meaningless. It's all about what you put on tape against other NFL guys.

Shilo making it in the league is going to have very little to do with his 40 speed and everything to do with his ability to make positive plays and avoid negative plays.

It will be about how quickly he can read and respond to the play being thrown at him, can he avoid false keys and getting out of position, can he make the right read when they flood his zone and go to the right man?

It will also be about making the play. Can he continue to force turnovers but not do it at the expense of missed tackles, can he avoid penalties that keep opponents drives going?

Shilo will get his chance, probably chances, in the NFL. The measurables may influence where and if he is drafted but Deion has the contacts to make sure that Shilo gets a solid look in camp, drafted or not.

Ultimately though in the NFL guys who stick are the guys who perform. Again hearing some pros talk there are some guys who have played safety in the NFL who because of age, injuries, etc. would have had a hard time running a 4.8. Didn't matter a lot though because their brains put them in a position to make plays that speed wouldn't.

Shilo is about to embark on the biggest set of job interviews in his life. The entire Sanders clan has done good things for CU. Yeah, it’s a message board and we slice and dice everything, but I just prefer to acknowledge that the NFL stands for “not for long” for a reason, and simply wish our guys well as they fight to get drafted and make a team.

This board has a very weird hate towards Shilo that is hard to understand.

Shilo is a better safety than Stoudamire, he definitely responds faster and has better understanding about the coverage. Yet people treat him as the result of CP's nepotism.
This board is actually more fair to Shilo than the general fan base. He gets killed on SM and I don't know if I've ever heard so much vitriol about one of our own players from fans in the stands.

Fwiw, I thought he was a frustrating player but mostly because he would miss basic plays by always trying to make the big play and also because he would do some boneheaded stuff in an effort to intimidate & bring aggression. That stuff needs to be tempered. But I don't think fans give enough credit for how hard he plays or how great he is at taking great angles to close on rushers and receivers. If anything, I think a lot of his struggles this year were a result of his body already starting to break down from how violently he plays.

I am confused about the idea of the "Headache Gang"? Prime was a very choosy tackler, and he would never ever put his head on the line to make a tackle or big play. It is too much risk for you or the other player for the long term. I think he has lots of potential, but choosing to celebrate big hits in a football world that completely does not want that anymore is just an odd choice and that is what tainted me far too much.

After watching him break his arm and come back gave me a lot of respect and love for his courage and toughness, but there is no doubt that having a broken arm affects your ability to tackle. Who knows, really hope he figures it all our in the NFL and succeeds.

I agree that we need to not be so critical anymore as it cannot help Prime feel as good about the overall fan base if he is picked on by us idiots

Shilo was helped a lot by being Prime's son but it also invites comparisons and he absolutely shouldn't be compared to his dad, completely different players.

Shilo isn't close to the athlete his dad was, if he was he would be playing corner.

Instead he is a guy who has to play a physical game to fit in, a guy who has to be the hitter, try and force guys to drop the ball, make physical tackles. He isn't going to run with people, jump routes, and shut down receivers downfield, that is some guy named Travis.

Shilo is going to have to find his niche in the league. To do so he is going to have to be a guy who is a run stopper, who battles TEs, who forces fumbles, and I would expect be a terror on special teams.

What he won't be is another Prime Time.

Agreed, but player safety will continue to be a huge deal and just ask the Broncos former safety what happens to your career when you are a reckless and dirty player. Technique is king

Some people get a few plays or a single game performance stuck in their minds and that’s their confirmation bias. His celebrations after big hits and a couple personal foul penalties amplify that perspective of Shilo.
It really does. He doesn't make it better because he already has eyes on him with the jersey number and the past of his father but then you add him getting into unnecessary stuff and that wouldn't be allowed from a role player. Those things add up for people. For me, no but I watch the film play by play. Even then, I know why he gets hate. He's unfortunately like Shedeur, 10x negatively, the issue is he's 10x negatively and he's a role player. He's not the impact player and people don't like the Pat Beverlys of the world.

To have an NFL career he will have to adjust. There is room for physical DBs but he will have to learn not to cross the line.

He already has a style that works in the NFL. He just has to drop the things like the personal fouls, the extra as he's just a role player and while that works with Prime, he would be pulled asap with any other coach. You gotta be a stud to do those things on D like Hunter. Hunter had as many silly moments as Shilo this year but most don't remember them. Why? Because he a superstar. When you aren't, they remember everything.

He had no where near the silly moments as Shilo if you are counting dumb taunting, late hits, unnecessary flagrant cheap shots, etc as "silly moments".
