Pretty much all of the schools you mentioned are blue bloods though, different situations entirely.
I would say, lift your chins, we didn't get the invite, but we got into their pool and we are swimming with them.
Fans need to start acting like we belong here.

Remember folks, a ton of blue chip QBs fail.
Hell, a ton of first round NFL QBs fail. Shurmur gets that.

JuJu looks like the real deal, blah blah blah - I get it. That's far from a guarrantee (I happen to think he's close to that but still).
We still need a backup that is good enough to win games so we are not back to 5-7.
JuJu looks like a confident kid, he should be willing to compete because that's how you get better.

So Yak, we are only able to compete for top recruits using the guarantee of playing time?

I thought it was a bunch of other things….

Ideally, CP is recruiting a Top 15 HS QB every year and if there is a 2 year gap where they aren't developing a SR transfer is brought in. To set this wheel in motion a SR Transfer should be brought in to compete with JuJu and they should be heavily recruiting a Top 15 HS QB next year. I would have also liked to have seen a Top 40 QB recruited as the second QB in last years class but backfilling that spot with a Fresh/Soph in the Portal would also be fine.

A nice depth chart would be SR QB / Ju Ju / Staub battling it out for QB 1 and also a development QB or 2 should be on the roster next year.

When it comes to QB in 2025 post Shedeur, yes, they have gone all in with Juju. What transfer who has aspirations of starting (aka going to cost a decent amount of $$$) is going to come to CU and risk his career by competing with a top 2 QB in the class?

I don’t know what you want to hear but times have changed and CU is not in position to bring in a highly competent QB who will happily sit behind Juju

My suggestion is "times HAVE changed".
CU is no longer a bottom feeder in the recruiting game.
9 of last year's 10 top rated High School QBs (per 247) went into situations where they did not see the field as the starters to begin the season.
A couple ended up seeing PT in the 2nd half of the year.

Why is CU/JuJu different?
NIL money - check
Depth chart - easiest by far (including bringing in a seasoned 1 year guy who can at least compete).
QB coach with resume of deveoping NFL success, Shurmur's wikipedia page:

"Shurmur’s unique ability to develop young talent at the quarterback position was once again..." Mentions Sam Bradford, Nick Foles breakout year, and others....

Why is CU different?
The game has changed you say.
I say our lot in life has changed.
Let's think like a program producing the #1 QB entering the draft and whose improved from 1 win to the Alamo Bowl in 2 years.

It's a 2 way street. With a cross street in this case. They got their 5*, but now you have to get your experienced competition to join the party, knowing there's a good chance they spend their final year of eligibility sitting on the bench. That's a tough sell, and you have to be careful about making promises you can't keep to both players. And to top it off, you're now devoting major resources to 2 QB's, likely overpaying one. That doesn't make sense for anyone involved.

The most likely scenario is they find another young QB who is blocked, and sees an opportunity to compete against a true freshman for playing time, knowing they can transfer again if they lose the battle.

I'm not sure what your point is in all this. That we should bring in another P5 starter transfer? That we should be able to bring in another P5 starter transfer? That P5 starter transfer should want to come to CU?

It makes sense for everyone involved. Who goes into a really important season trying to build the brand with one QB? How lucky did we get that Shedeur stayed upright? Really lucky.

Yes. It's called insurance and you have to pay for insurance.

My point is that I don't buy that you can't bring in a QB who is blocked elsewhere and willing to test his abilities against JuJu in a fair competition, without breaking the bank. Or a guy from G5 who is willing to take some NIL to see if he can get into the real headlights at Colorado.

This narrative that we are bringing in a 5-star 17 year old and thus we are going to have to roll with just him and Staub is one of the riskiest things I've ever seen to building our brand. No big boy program does that. We should be bringing in at least one other QB with some upside to push JuJu and compete with Staub at worse. JuJu benefits by that, even if he doesn't win the job in camp, or until his 2nd year. JuJu wins by Buffs remaining on national TV and building a brand to continue to improve the talent around him. JuJu loses if he has a rough year 1 (see Dylan Raiola) or gets hurt and Buffs go back to 4-8.

Insurance policy here is prudent.

I realize this thread was hijacked but I considered it hijacked when it was stated "He ain't coming here" and somehow we are bringing him here anyway!

Those are very different QB's than Salter. Salter wants guarantees. We can't offer that. It doesn't mean we won't find someone to come compete.

This. Hey, if a legit P5 transfer wants to come in, get a bit of cash and exposure and compete, then fine. But they will be made aware of the situation. I'm not saying someone won't do it, I'm saying that in this day and age it limits the selection pool.

FWIW, Salter underachieved significantly this past year. He knows it. His coaches know it. The true experts in the market know it.

So maybe he is good with what the situation is here. 🤷‍♂️

This is 100% correct. CU's market is probably limited.

Holy ****ing **** what is happening, this is like the early days of Prime but somehow even better. First Oatis (best defensive player in the portal) now Salter. Give the man a lifetime contract already.

Maybe Juju beats him out for the starting job but if he doesn't it would be extremely beneficial for Juju's development AND the team for him to learn under Salter for a year and then take over. After all Juju is only 17 and reclassified.

Just wait until the WR dominoes start to fall

Not yet at least. I think it's a true QB competition and if Juju is the clear winner in the Spring, which is very possible, I think Salter transfers.

Salter offers proven mobility (better than Shedeur) and experience that JuJu does not have. His stats are down due to the coaching change before this season but the last half showed improvement as if he was finally getting acclimated to the offense.

No one should be comfortable with a 17 year old taking over the reins of that offense.

I expect Salter to be QB1 for the Buffs in 2025.

He may very well be QB1. It's probably the best case scenario for CU to go the Texas route with Ewers/Arch and I assume this was always the plan and one that they already spoke with Juju about. That said, I would put the odds that Salter is QB1 as a coin flip. 17 or not, Juju is legit.
