Am I wrong?
No, you just intentionally ignored the point. Nothing to suggest any hires are going to be better at those positions. If the expectations of this program are still guys like Hagan, Els, Drake, and Johnson, then nothing has changed. Sure, he has 6 hires to suggest otherwise, but that's not a great start to me.

Now that we know about the OC, next biggest hire that I'm waiting for is the O-line coach. Get a good 'un, Coach Tuck!

Keeping this many guys means we need to hit it out of the park on the remaining position coaches in terms adding good recruiters. The OC is not a name that's going to give us any sort of recruiting bump either. From what I've seen of Drake he seems like a guy who can be mentored to be a good recruiter once Tucker gets his process in place assuming he continues to push it as a priority for the program.

Or what? You and your world class knowledge of college football coaching and recruiting will throw down the gauntlet and demand satisfaction? Anybody that is complaining about Els and Drake being retained may be missing a few brain cells. I get the CU past-player nepotism for Hagan but he has actually been pretty solid and should have a better product to sell to RB's under MT for recruiting (especially if the new OC is a run-first pistol guy). As for Chev, no one would argue that he should be calling plays or game planning. However, he really has been more than solid in bringing in first-rate WR talent out of Texas and California. That said, I am sure HCMT is very concerned about "impressing" all of us. ****, I think I may need another furlough from this site. I'm getting grouchy already. I would say no offense but actually offense is intended. ; )
That's fine. I think we want the same thing: to beat USC. Step 1, we need to recruit better, and for that, we need better recruiters. To date, the staff is over half full and we haven't improved our recruiting.

I’m in agreement about those guys and have been outspoken about my dislike of Hagan on staff. I would have loved to see an entire staff overhaul, outside of Chev. However, I think it’s a little dramatic and untrue to say “nothing has changed” because MT has retained 4 staff members. I will trust our new coach and AD who have stated emphatically that recruiting is priority number one. Has there been a mandate to those 4 guys that recruiting WILL be their job? Will MT raise all boats in that regard? We’re fixing to find out.

Men of your size should be more relaxed. Based on the evidence we have, these hires don't suggest an emphasis on recruiting, overall. I think that's a fair criticism. Let's hope a change of head coach fixes the issue.

I’m sure monitary considerations were a factor as well. Space out the hit within a few years instead of all this year. However, outside of Hagan, who didn’t you like coming back? I thought Drakes guys performed well as well as Els.

I have no issues with the coaches MT is keeping.
Chev back to WR coach is a good thing, Hagan will be fine, and the new OC will make sure they get better as coaches.
Drake is an up and coming stud IMO, and the ILB played well last year so I am ok with Els.
I am sure MT laid out his goals in the interview process. They will get on board. He will coach the coaches and show them how the SEC recruits.

Chev isn't exactly a guy i want coaching TE's.
Coaching TEs would be in the passing game & on blocking in space. Stuff Chev was great at as a player. For the in-line stuff, they'd actually be working more with the OL coach when it came to the run game & max protect. "TE coach" is very much a recruiting position on a staff. One of the reasons I hated so very very much having Bernardi in that job.

Edit: Plus, a lot of the damage Viska did this year was when he was in the slot running the TE routes.

I would think when You apply for a head coaching position, You would already have a OC and DC in your pocket at a minimum?

He just doesn't seem to value the position, which is my concern. Also...

Hiring proven recruiters does not matter, right?
I think Drake is going to be a great recruiter for where HCMT wants to go (Louisiana, Houston), I also think that our front 7 this year (especially the DL) made the greatest year over year improvement of any positions. Drake is a potential stud and HCMT knows it. Els is a seasoned P5 linebacker coach whose unit performed well and has the biggest upside of any position right now. I'm not sure who you thought he could bring in that would be better at those two slots. Do I think recruiting is important. . . absolutely. Do I think we need to have great position coaching as well? Definitely. Personally, I cannot wait to see who he has at OL and TE.

So that means the most important remaining hire is the Bag Man.

Coordinators, to me, are often secondary closers to support recruiting of their position coaches. And usually to coach QBs.

I want them all in on strategy, schemes, preparation, installation, execution and coaching all over the field, including the O position coaches.

I’m completely cool with this hire, especially after seeing his role in UGA O and hearing reports of what Smart and Chaney think of him.

We don't have time to wait on Drake becoming a great recruiter. He needs to show it now.

Drake I think is the one I’m least worried about becoming a really good recruiter. He seems like he has the kind of personality to be one. But he hasn’t shown it yet so Tucker better be on his ass and pushing him
