Basketball Game Thread #7 Oklahoma St @ #20 Colorado (Live From the MGM Grand)

I can't believe we played that bad and only lost to OSU by 5.
This. We were sleepwalking most of the night and the game came down to the last minute against the #7 team in the country. The PAC 12 slate is going to be fun this year.

I just think we don't get the ball inside enough. It'll open up somebody if they double Scott. Make it easy and it was pretty obvious we got production doing that. Hell we should do it all the time.

Fugly. Still, covered the spread. Zags, Mizzou, and Umass losses to unranked teams likely buoys Buffs in top 25 AP.

Buffs sure laid an egg tonight. But kept battling, through the awful turnovers, awful shot selection and some questionable calls from the officials. To play this bad and still be right there against #7 in the nation bodes well for our Buffs. Go Buffs.

Yeah, a little two-man game with Scott and Mayor should be deadly, but we never see it.

We need shooters. Period. End of story.

I think once Fletcher and Thomas get more experience and confidence well be alright. I would like to see talton a little more, he has a good stroke as a spot up shooter.

XJ had the worst second half I've seen someone have in a long time.

This team can be real dangerous, but Spencer has to play aggressive from the start of the game. It would open the offense up for everyone.

We have to get better at defending the other teams best spot up shooter.

You're planning on another 7-10 seed? I think we'll do better than that this year.

I said "about" the level of team. Alot can change in the next 2.5 months, but even as a 5 or 6 seed we're gonna be facing a pretty good team in the 2nd round barring an upset. Assuming we win our first game, of course.

Good news: Nobody saw the game. The final score looked better than deserved. Better news: Two guys who saw it were Fraschilla and Katz, and they both were biting their tongues about how awful the officiating was against CU. The ESPN.com stories will tell a different story.

0% chance he plays in the nba

Players develop and change so much, that absolutes like that don't really make much sense. I don't see how him failing to make it to the NBA would make him a bad player, exactly. He had a bad game tonight. Was a big reason why CU beat KU, however.

Good points. Buffs did not do themselves any favors but neither did the refs.

I'm anniyed right now but we beat one out if KU and okie state. I'd take th KU game

It's not really a dig on xj. We've been spoiled; not every good young player we ger goes to the league.

This is a game that should help both CU and OSU, once they hit conference play. Know Arizona and Oregon have very good back courts, but really nothing compared to what CU faced tonight. Would have loved to got the win obviously, but assuming they get the win against Georgia, and I'll still be happy with how the OOC turned out.

With that said, who honestly would have predicted CU loses to Travis Ford and Scott Drew, but beat Bill Self? Know the KU game was at home, but I wasn't expecting that.

Personally, I'm fine with XJ staying for four years, and hopefully getting better every year.

But tonight certainly was ammo for those that thought he would be more effective at Power Forward. Especially with Gordon having a not very good night, himself.

I'm trying to put this in perspective.

We only lost by 5. As badly as I thought we played, more equal officiating in the 1st half to balance out FTs and we probably would have won. We're not far away.

Also, I was looking at the rosters and it hit me how young we are. Physically, that can make it tough to match up.

CU roster tonight:
Starters- 2 juniors, 2 sophomores, 1 freshman
Bench- 1 sophomore, 4 freshmen (throw in 1 senior if you want to include the 30 seconds from Mills at the end of the 1st half)

OSU roster tonight:
Starters- 1 senior, 3 juniors, 1 sophomore
Bench- 2 sophomores, 1 freshman

Buffs have a lot of room for growth. Sitting at 10-2 with a likely home win against Georgia to take us into conference play at 11-2 against one of the nation's toughest schedules. I'm feeling pretty damn good about this team.

Easy to say Buffs need another outside threat. What I'm seeing is a supporting cast that is tentative in taking guys 1-on-1 and breaking down the defense. The underclassmen aside from Scott just didn't look confident and focused. This team is never going to be known as a "shooters" team but are clearly capable of creating open looks for themselves and their teammates and knocking down those shots. Also, it doesn't help when one of your strengths is drawing fouls when the refs are calling a loose game. They made some crap calls on OK st too just think the ref style benefitted the pokes more.
