Bowl Games (other than ours) and associated silliness 2024 Plus the Playoffs

26 pages on a subject where our team isn’t even one of the participants leads me to believe there is more interest in the expanded playoff than many of you want to admit.
College football fans in watching the last few college football games of the year shocker.

Over the past 2 weeks I've realized how big the Michigan game is to tOSU fans and it's far more than I imagined. They did a feature on GameDay this morning and a fan was asked how big winning the national championship would be and he said it would have an asterisk due to the Michigan loss. Bizarre

I moved to Ann Arbor in December of 1971. I had visited there a couple of months earlier to visit with a couple of friends and classmates from Lafayette who had transferred to Michigan that year, and went to the UM-Indiana game with them. I went to a couple of games the next two years, but didn't really become a UM fan until the 10-10 tie against tOSU in '73, after which, despite almost a universal consensus that Michigan had outplayed the Suckeyes, the Big 10 ADs voted to send them to the Rose Bowl largely because UMs starting QB (Dennis Franklin) injured his throwing shoulder in the game (sound familiar FSU?).

Meanwhile UM stayed home, since back then the Big 10 only sent one team a year to a bowl game. That was the genesis of my hatred of tOSU, which seethes to this day. That UM team went something like 30-2-1 from '72-'74, and never went to a bowl game.

So I know a little bit about the intensity of that rivalry on both sides. But I must say that I believe that the Suckeye fans' hatred of all things Michigan goes much deeper that that of UM fans for them. Michigan is by far tOSU's biggest rival, while UM also has bitter rivalries with Sparty and, to a lesser extent, Minnesota. While Michigan wants to beat the Suckeyes intensely every year, it doesn't necessarily make or break their overall season. For tOSU, it does.

Family is out of town. Got nothing to do. But mostly I was hate-watching the underdogs.

jokes aside, it must suck for the tennessee seniors to see their college or in some cases football careers end like this
