Bracketology 2013/2014

I've seen Virginia 4 times now. They appear to be smart, disciplined, and talented. Look out for them in the tournament.

They're the real thing.

I've been most impressed with how they seem to figure teams out from the defensive end and are able to shut them completely down the last 8 minutes.

A Final Four is certainly not out of the question. Bennett's style travels well, and it will be a nightmare for teams who aren't used to them. UVA has no one player you can shut down, the scoring comes from anywhere and everywhere. It's also a big mistake for anyone to assume they're a one trick pony that is just good on defense, their offense is very effective and they're capable of getting in a higher scoring affair than expected and still winning. It's pretty remarkable to be a full 3 games ahead of Duke, Cuse and UNC. I don't expect them to take their foot off the gas @ Maryland now that they've wrapped up the ACC title. Virginia/Maryland is a storied rivalry and this is the last meeting as ACC foes. Bennett also doesn't care much for Turgeon. I expect Virginia to keep pushing to get a 2 seed. If they win the ACC tournament they need to be considered for a 1 seed, although I have my doubts they'll win the ACC tournament (it's tough to be asked to beat both UNC and Duke in Greensboro).

That and I think that Tyler Ennis is hitting the freshman wall. He's not shooting like he was. As good as he is, they've put a lot on the shoulders of an 18 year old.

Not to mention Cooney, whose shooting has been horrendous during this stretch and he is a big part of their offense. This team as a whole is really struggling shooting the ball now and the Grant injury isn't helping their depth and they weren't a deep team to begin with. Now the big question regarding seeding is whether Syracuse will still be place in the East Region where the regionals are in MSG and they would have a huge homecourt advantage.

According to Joe Lunardi, we're the first team listed in the last four in so we'd be in Dayton. If that's really the case, we *might* need a first round win(or shall I say avoiding a bad loss) even with a win tonight or Saturday.

Is that some new tweet or something? Because his last full update on Monday has us a 10 seed and not even in one of the final bye spots. That would be an awful long way to drop a team in two days that hasn't played.

Halftime of the Wake/Duke game.

Odd. There weren't even many teams playing the last two nights. If it is true (not doubting you, I mean our actual positioning) then we need a win more desperately than previously thought.
Yeah I was pretty surprised when I saw this considering we haven't played since Saturday.

Lunardi dropping CU that far in under 48 hours (prior to our win) had all the makings of some twisted ESPN BPI "example". Glad we ****ed up that parade.

yup. it was ****ing weird. ESPN can go **** themselves with their BPI. Had to love Walton telling his ESPN stooge co-anchor to go stuff it with that ****.

ESPN was all about ****ting on the game tonight. The bull**** after half time was ridiculous. Took them 6min of game time to actually talk basketball...

Walton was kind of funny with that, his attitude was if the NCAA uses the RPI then why the F#@$ should we care about the BPI, lol. ESPN does really seem to be trying to make us their poster child for why their proprietary BPI ranking is "better"

Loved Walton when the CU resume came up with "at Utah" as the "bad loss". Walton was like, "Utah is 18-2 at home! How is that a bad loss?".

Walton rocks.

yes. but he also thinks 8 P12 teams are in the dance.

He might be right.

Utah is good enough to be in the field and has the record in Pac-12 play to back it up. But they will be rightly penalized for that non-conference schedule. Besides, they're only 17-9 against D1 (2 phony wins). They beat BYU and lost at Boise State in the non-con. Nothing wrong there. But they played no one else.

Watch them win the tournament.

Don't get all the Lunardi hate. Make no mistake about it, this team was in dangerous, dangerous territory had they not gotten a win this week.
