Translation translation: everyone should have the “free speech” to say, tweet, or retweet whatever offensive point of veiw they want, but anyone expressing their “free speech” to point out what they believe to be offensive, dangerous, hypocritical, misleading, or awful about those expressions, while asserting their “free speech” belief that such conduct may rise to the level of negatively impacting that person’s job performance is somehow “silencing” or “cancelling” that person, even when there is no power to actually “silence” or “cancel” anything.

Who is seeking to silence whom in this manufactured “cancel culture” equation, exactly?
Admirable for you to bother with that person’s sock account. They unliked my post that said white nationalism is bad, so it’s not like you’re replying to somebody who’s behaving in good faith.

You racist nazi.

Behaving in good faith...hahaha. Pot meet kettle. Boo hoo hoo, "they" unliked me.

In other words:

1. People can say whatever they want. Free country. Both sides support this. It would be un-American to think unpopular or offensive speech should be banned.

2. Freedom isn't free. There may be consequences to expressing certain things. One of those consequences is that others may express that they disagree. Their disagreement may be strong enough that they refuse to conduct trade with your organization. If enough people agree, the organization may terminate its relationship with the original speaker to distance the organization from the speech and avoid unwelcome consequences for the organization. This is "cancel culture" and everyone does it to some extent - voting with our wallets. It only seems to bother anyone when the target is views shared by oneself or an allied group.

I will admit that I’m not a regular purveyor of or contributor to social media with the lone exception of AB. I didn’t even know what a “sock account” was, but based on it calling me a nazi, I sort of get it. lol. Thanks.

A sock accout is an additional account that inflammatory users create in order to post their inflammatory stuff with more visibility. They know that they’re ignored by so many people already that they need extra accounts.

I'm amazed at all the snowflakes on here who have no sense of professionalism whatsoever. If I had any of his sketchy follows attached to my place of work in any way shape or form, I would get stern talking to. And I would deserve it--it would reflect badly on my organization. This has nothing to do with "cancel culture" and everything to do with not being a douche that makes your employer potentially look bad. Be a ****ing grown up and consume social media garbage on your own time.

So much courage and bravery on display in this thread. It’s about time someone sticks up for the exactly <checks notes> zero people who cared or complained about this.

I’m not a social media guy, so is it just Twitter that’s allocated this much consideration? How about FB or IG? Can someone please upload the current outrage protocols?

Look how offended you are. Gotta toughen up in this world.

Has anyone who is really upset about this actually reached out to RG or his boss to ask about this, or are we still at the message board outrage stage of this?

not here to comment on if RG should be allowed to follow questionable folks with his work twitter

but I am here to say that his ideologies are regressive and what CU needs is progressive leadership, so, #fireRickGeorge

And just as a heads up, the guy you’re trying to get fired and you’re calling a neo-Nazi leads the AD responsible for all of this- https://cubuffs.com/sports/2021/9/25/initiatives.aspx

That’s in addition to RG hiring back-to-back AA head football coaches and hiring an AA associate AD.

“bUt hiS tWiTTer fOLLoWs!”

Can any of you condemning RG point to a single example of RG being even remotely bigoted?

Remaining politically neutral in an account that can be identified to you personally is basic social media 101.

I am socially liberal, and many of my war-machine technology clients would likely not agree. So my follows on my Twitter page are CU sports figures, Adam, Buffnik, some music related figures, and some other personal interests. There is no Twitter account with my name on it following anything I think is inappropriate such as politics.

I have a 2nd Twitter account that I use much more often where I follow a few guys I prefer such as Garry Kasparov and others, including a little of both sides.

My point? Simply that Rick has used incredibly poor judgement in following these folks with his Twitter account, which is absolutely tied to CU. It doesn't matter that he had the account before he got here. He lists right on the account that he's the AD of the University of Colorado. That makes it tied together. Period. If his account was @RickyDgoCU (with no mention of his true identify), it would be different.

This isn't cancelling culture. It's about a public figure representing the State of Colorado and advertising his politics openly, followed up by following Nazi figures that is just plain inexcusable.

He's either dumb as a gourd (which I've suspected for some time - see his contracts) or a nazi. Either way, he sucks.
